READY TO TEACH
You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. (Hebrews 5:12a)
How many of you remember the Truth or Consequences game show? The other day I was surprised to find that “Let’s Make a Deal” is still going as well. I really believe that we are entering a time in the Kingdom of God where God has made us a deal and truth or consequences is going to be the rule not the exception.
Let me explain. Jesus often spoke of hearing His voice, ‘today’! He said that faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God, not by listening and listening. We do not want to be people who are always listening and never hearing. We need to be people who get it!
In order to be convincing, we need to be convinced. As we have considered the question, “Where are you,” this is another important question we must answer. Are you ready to teach? The time for excuses has to come to an end. Jesus had no time for excuses. When He called people to follow and they made excuses He told them that until they were ready to quit making excuses they would not be ready for or worthy of the Kingdom of God.
We do not have to know how everything works to be convinced that it does. When Jesus delivered the man who was possessed by demons, He sent him back to teach all the people about the wonderful thing God did for him. The proof was in the pudding so to speak.
Peter and John told the people that it was faith in the name of Jesus that healed the crippled man. The crippled man was leaping and dancing and praising God; that was pretty convincing. It is not what we know that will convince anyone, it is Who we know.
When we hear and act on the Word of God we see the truth and the truth makes us free. Jesus told us to go into the world and heal the sick, cast out the demons, and freely give what we have received. What we know or what we say will never convince anyone who is not seeking the Lord. Those who seek will find, those who ask will receive, and those who knock on the door will have it opened. Therefore we should be askers, seekers, and knockers, then we can share what we find, receive and discover behind those open doors.
Once a man came to my door and asked me if I was the guy who cast out demons? I told him that it was not exactly what I considered my field of expertise but I knew the One who did such things. I did not know much but I knew God did. We walked over to the church and when we prayed, I saw and heard things I had not seen or heard before, the results were just as Jesus promised. The truth set him free, what would the consequences have been if I had not been convinced that God was able, even if I knew little about it. Only God knows.
God has promised us all the best deal of all. The enemy comes and tries to get us to trade for a bag of rocks. No matter how the enemy disguises his prizes, they are junk compared to what God has promised. We ought to all be able to teach this. When we do, we will see the Kingdom of God manifest in greater and greater measure at ever increasing speed. Trust Him!
