RECEIVE

...to whom I now send you, to open their eyes and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me. (Acts 26:17-18 NKJ)

You know it really is not hard to receive from God. According to what Jesus told Paul, our inheritance starts with our receiving forgiveness for our sins. Even this comes after God does most of the work. The Holy Spirit draws us and provides numerous opportunities for our eyes to be opened. He reveals darkness and helps us to understand that we need a savior. He does everything He can, but in the end it is up to us to receive the light and the forgiveness of our sins. Oh what a wonderful gift!

No doubt we have all struggled at times with the simplicity of it all, but in the end we either receive it, spend our lives trying to earn it, or we just plain forget it. I pray that everyone reading this has simply received God’s great gift. If you are one who is trying to earn it or one who has given up on it, please back up and take the gift.

Now that we have decided to receive the gift, let’s consider the inheritance that came with it. That’s right, it came with it. It was all part of the original package. Everything else was and is supposed to be just as simple to receive as our salvation. So let the redeemed of the Lord say so!

We have been redeemed from the curse and delivered into the blessing of the Lord. Now that is good news. So how do we receive the rest of the blessings? We receive them the same way we received salvation. We asked for it and it was given to us as a gift. Our sins were washed away with a flood of the blood and there we stood; brand new creatures in Christ.

I have to tell you that it was easy for me to receive salvation. By the time my eyes came open, I was desperate to be forgiven. The darkness around me was so obvious that it never occurred to me that there would be any way that I could ever work it off. It had to be removed and removed quickly, and God was up to the task.

Unfortunately, it took a lot longer for me to come to understand that receiving everything else was supposed to be just as easy. I knew how to ask, but not really how to receive. I knew what I wanted but did not understand that it gave the Lord pleasure to provide it, so I did not ask all that much! God has been so good even when my understanding was minimal.

However, with understanding comes responsibility. I must receive and I must help others to do the same. Just as Jesus instructed Paul to open people’s eyes, so He instructs us all to receive all that He has promised and reveal it to those around us. We must receive in order to achieve par in the Kingdom of God!
