RECEIVING AND REAPING

Don't be misled. Remember that you can't ignore God and get away with it. You will always reap what you sow! (Galatians 6:7 NLT)

Scripture is clear concerning giving. We should do it! God promises that when we give it will be given unto us. In Malachi, He challenges us to give freely and see what He will do in return. He loves cheerful givers and let’s be honest, what He asks us to give is not all that much. Especially when we consider that all we have came from Him in the first place. And, as we have established, it is okay to expect God to keep His word and bless us for our faithful giving.

Scripture also tells us that God gives seed to the sower. So He not only gives us enough to give, He will give us enough to sow over and above normal type giving. When we talked about harvesting it was in a sense like reaping. Galatians 6:7 tells us very plainly that we will always reap what we sow. Personally, for a major portion of my Christian life I usually relegated that to the idea that if you sow bad, you will reap bad. If you sow to the wind you reap the whirlwind.

Tell me, why is that we are more willing to believe that God will get us if we do bad things, than we are to believe that He will bless us when we do good. I cannot imagine how it makes Him feel when He promises that we will always reap just like we sow and we don’t bother to imagine that there are good implications there as well.

I know there are many people who understand this far better than I do, but unfortunately most of the people who really understand it are mocked by the body of Christ that they try to help. Granted there are people who have perverted the teaching and that have taken advantage of people, but we just cannot throw out the truth because we don’t like some of the messengers.

Like it or not, there is a scriptural basis for sowing specific seeds beyond our normal tithing and giving. If we sow in faith we will reap in faith. If we sow big we will reap big. If we sow in unbelief, we will get what we believe. We need to understand that it is not something we just try once and then decide it does not work. If we are not faithful givers, for us to all of a sudden decide to sow for a particular purpose may run into a bit of a roadblock. This is not to say that God will not honor it and bless the person to does it in order to draw them deeper into a relationship with Him, but God is big on faithfulness too!

There is so much that God can teach us concerning His economy, but we must seek the understanding. We cannot just decide that something won’t work unless we have tried it. It is wrong for us not to accept what the word of God says and put it into practice. There is a multitude of people who do not know Him who need for us to walk in all the truth we can. We need to give and receive and sow and reap, so that the Kingdom of God can go through every door that God opens. Just ask God for understanding.
