REMEMBER

Give all your worries to Him, because He cares for you. (1 Peter 5:7 ERV)

Jesus told us to remember all that He did while on the earth and what He accomplished through the cross and His resurrection. Oddly, more often than not, when we remember things it is more along the lines of things that are not so good. Instead of allowing the good things to raise us up, we get caught up in the bad things that bring us down.

How often does something come up that is really a redesign of something the Lord has already brought us through and instead of taking comfort in the care God showed to us before, we get worried about going through it again? We tend to focus on everything that could go wrong rather than on how right God can make it turn out. Peter had a solution and a reminder that was written down for all eternity. Remember. God cares for you!

Do you remember when you first met and entered into a relationship with Him? Have you learned to enjoy Him? Sometimes when I start on a memory journey I discover new things that He did and I never really saw how they fit in at the time. I get a whole new opportunity to thank Him for the things I knew and the new things I learn.

It was the about this time of year nearly thirty years ago that I found out that God could lead a person to a place with no idea of what was ahead and make you feel like it was a good plan! He had plans. We had none. Still, it seemed like the right thing. Looking back I can see why some thought it a bit crazy and wondered what had happened to me. People often felt sorry for my wife thinking I was forcing her down this crazy path, but that is not at all true. She has always been right with me as we have sought to know Jesus more.

Love is blind. Love is certain that everything will work out. That love can never fail when it is directed toward God. He is faithful. He cares. Remember how His peace comes when you think of Him. Remember how the pressure goes off when you give your cares to Him? People who do not know God think it is all make believe. But you know it is true because you have felt His touch. Haven’t you? Remember!

Throughout the Word of God we see people remembering what God has done in order to stir their faith and the faith of those around them. This was what Jesus was doing when He broke bread with the disciples telling them to remember Him. They would need to remember often that He won and therefore they would be victorious too through Christ who always causes us to triumph. Remember, things are not always as they appear, but God is always just as He says He is.

So today, let’s remember God’s faithfulness, love, care, and promises. In the face of all the news, fears, doubts, gloom and doom, and the demise of the world, give your worries to God. He cares for you. Now isn’t that better. Go teach someone else how to do that very thing.
