RESCUED

The Lord is close to the broken hearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed. (Ps. 34:18)

I am grateful that the Lord rescued me and continues to rescue me. So, I want to start a new year searching my heart and as well as asking the Lord to search me and show me the way to deeper gratitude.

It is cold here, but my heart is warm just thinking about the goodness of God. When I shoveled the walks this morning I shoveled a path to the church, but I shoveled the whole walk into the church. As I did that, I was reminded that we all have a path that we take, but the way to the Lord is always wide open. His arms are always welcoming us. He loves our presence. He loves when we seek. He loves when we share. He just loves.

Our rescue is always guaranteed. When we call, He answers. He even reminds us to call! He made the way for us to be rescued. Jesus is the way. Jesus is the truth. Jesus is the life. Jesus is the light of the world. Oh, I am so glad that the Lord saved me.

To most who read this, it is old news. We know the way. We have heard it before. Do we remember being grateful? Do we remain grateful?

Does your heart get full when you think of these things? We are all loved so much. Do we love Him a lot or a little, or somewhere in between.

His love never changes. The variable is gratitude. We are in charge of gratitude. He will not force us to love Him or praise Him. Are we like children when our parents are teaching us manners and they ask us to say thank you?

I have a dog who spins circles in anticipation of a treat. When I show her the treat, she sits. If she does not get it right away, she spins again and sits. When I don’t even have a treat, she will spin by the treat door and sit. She is grateful. Even if she does not get the treat, that does not change her determination.

We all want treats. We all want our prayers answered sooner than later. We all want a trouble-free life. We all want. We just want what we want when we want it.

The thing is, we have plenty to be thankful for if we have been rescued. Just think about the Lord. Think about His goodness. I often think of when I was first rescued. I told many people that in my mind God never had to do another thing for me. I had everything I could ever have imagined just being rescued. He has done above and beyond anything I could hope or imagine since then, but I am truly still in awe of His rescue. So I will remain forever grateful.

If I am forever grateful, my words, thoughts, and actions should reveal that. Lord, I need to be the way I want to be. Blessing and glory and honor and power be unto you oh Lord.
