RESTORATION
For He must remain in heaven until the time of the final restoration of all things...(Acts 3:22)
Since the day that Adam and Eve were removed from the garden, God has been in the process of restoring what He once had with Adam and what Adam had with Him. In fact Jesus is referred to as the last Adam. He was the example of the fellowship we are to have with God.
In Psalm 51, David asks for the restoration of the Joy of His salvation. In Isaiah he declares that those who wait on the Lord will have their strength renewed, which is the same as restored. God truly does want to restore everything to us that He has promised is ours. In the beginning God created and gave dominion to man over His creation. The truth is, we have very little understanding of what dominion really is in the context that God intended. We may know how to dominate another person, but have no control over our own lives. We want God to put everything in perfect order for us, but we don’t want to do our part in seeing it done.
We prefer to be like a racecar driver on race day. We want to speed around a track with everything running perfectly. Then occasionally we want to zip into the pits and expect the pit crew to get everything done in a few seconds and off we go again. However, if we go behind the scenes in the race world, we will see that they work feverishly between races to see that everything runs right. The also practice and practice so that they can get the pit stuff done on race day in the most efficient manner. If they should have a wreck, they go to work to see that the car is restored to better than new by the next race.
What sort of preparation are we making for our restoration? Do we take the time to develop the skills? Are we diligent between races? Are we prepared to pull in when things go wrong and get done what must be done? Are we prepared to do what ever is necessary to win the race? Are we listening for the voice of the pit boss to tell us when we need to pull in? I really do not know much about racing, but I can see that being finely tuned is a great advantage. In the same way I can see that being finely in tune with God is the most important thing for anyone’s life.
We are in a spiritual war, and we get bumped and bruised and have a few wrecks. We need regular times of restoration. We need private and corporate fellowship with God. We need to ask God to reveal to us how deeply important both are. If we can just get a glimpse of what God is doing and what the benefits will be, then we will be more diligent in our preparation for running the race. God has made the way for all of this to take place and He wants it for us more than we want it for ourselves. What ever it is in our lives that we need restored; God has it already prepared. Will we believe it?
One final thought. No matter what the pit boss does, or how everything is lined up. The car is still in the hands of the driver. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit have everything in place. We have the best of everything, but it is in our hands what we do with it.
