RESURRECTION OF THE DEAD

They were very disturbed that Peter and John were claiming, on the authority of Jesus, that there is a resurrection of the dead. (Acts 4:2 NLT)

Have you ever wondered why the resurrection of the dead bothered the religious leaders so much? One obvious reason was that God had already raised Jesus from the dead. Even though they had done their best to discredit this fact, they knew the truth. Jesus, whom they had crucified was not only raised from the dead, he was taken up to be with His Father as well. They knew the scriptures well and once again God was proven true and every man a liar. The very one they had rejected was actually the cornerstone of their faith. We all hate it when we are wrong, but it is surely better to just admit it than it is to excuse it and continue in a wrong direction.

When Jesus walked the earth He spoke of light and life. This angered them too, for they were blind to the truth and they were not experiencing life. For them, the scriptures were a living, but no life came with it. It made them angry that people who believed and followed Jesus experienced a visible change in their lives. They in fact experienced a resurrection from the death that they were living in. Religion still hates life in Christ.

If you have been born again, you know what it is like to feel Jesus come alive on the inside of you. At that point we enter a place of life and we have the opportunity to choose life in everything we encounter while on this earth. Unfortunately, there are many who are drawn by the Lord and who walk through that door but then for one reason or another allow themselves to be deceived and they give up that life that only Jesus can give. Fortunately this does not change the promise of God. He never changes.

Arresting the disciples could not change the truth. The religious leaders knew that, but they felt they had to try. Why did they resist the truth? Why do we resist the truth? Why do we doubt? Why do we grow weak? Why do we settle for less than God has promised?

In Christ we see God’s plan for our lives. He came into this world as a child. From his humble beginnings He grew to be a man who conquered sin and death. He was resurrected from the dead and after He made a little visit to the devil to strip him of power and lead the captives to freedom He appeared to the disciples and many others and then He was taken up in the clouds to sit at the right hand of His Father and our Father. And so it is with us. We are resurrected from our death in sin and born into His kingdom as babes in Christ. We have the opportunity to grow up in Him and walk in power and authority. One day we will be taken up to be with Lord. While there is much that we do not understand, if we will be faithful to walk in what we do understand, God will confirm His word in our lives in such a way that we will be strengthened and will not faint or turn back. Hold on tight to the truth. Doubt works like a cancer to destroy the life you have.
