REVIEW FOR THE NEW

Who do I have I in heaven but You? And there is none on earth that I desire besides You. My flesh and Heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. (Psalm 73:25-26)

Time and time again as we read the Bible, we are presented with reviews of the greatness of God. We see how the people rejected Him and then they cried out and He rescued them. We see long lists of the great and powerful things that God has done and we are encouraged to consider God and His great love and power toward His people. So it seems to me that a good review will help us to prepare for the new!

In Psalm 73, we see the writer going through some serious heart searching. He tells how it bugs him to see the wicked getting along well and seemingly having no troubles. They care less about God and even mock Him. But then he realizes that he if spoke that way that he would have been untrue to God and to those around him. (Vs 15) The declaration that God is for him in heaven and that there is nothing greater than Him for his life on earth puts him into a proper frame of mind and opens the gates for the peace of God.

As we have looked at the power of God and how it is established for our benefit and how it gives us life and strength enabling us to cast down lies that try to steal from us and to be established on the Rock of our faith, we have come to realize more of the Love of God and just what a responsible parent He is. There is nothing dead-beat about Him, and if we keep this in mind we will not be so quick to misrepresent Him to the world.

God has never and will never fail. We may not be able to figure out what He is doing, but we should not risk analyzing to the point of doubt in order to figure God out.

There is a long list of examples in the bible where man’s plans clash with Gods’. For instance, the Jewish leaders knew a Messiah would come, but they were planning for a conquering hero and not a baby, so they missed him. The grace was in Christ as a baby, and he grew in favor with man and God, but it was not until 30 years later that He was launched into ministry. Would we send Him into the desert for forty days to be tempted? Why could He only heal a few in His town? Why did He let Lazarus die? Why did He go to the cross? Why did He leave? Why? Why? Why?

Of course we know the answers to part of these and yet they do not necessarily make sense. If we were in control, we may have done some things differently. Fortunately we are not in control! The one thing we are in control of is how we trust and depend upon God. Are we willing to let Him be God and look forward to each new thing He does for us. Will we join the Psalmist and declare that we know He is in heaven with plans for our lives and that there is nothing we desire on earth more than Him. If we draw near to Him and put our trust in Him, we will have the privilege of declaring all His works and they are good!
