REVIEW FOR THE NEW 2
From that time Jesus began to tell people His message: "Change your hearts and lives, because God's Kingdom is coming soon." (Matthew 4:17 ERV)
I have often heard people speak of the importance of understanding history. To be honest, history was not a favorite subject of mine as a youngster, but it interests me a great deal now. Of course one part of knowing history is to avoid the mistakes made in the past, but important lessons can also be drawn from knowing how great things were accomplished. For instance, the work ethic of the generation that pulled together to win wars; we need that to spread like a wild fire in this generation! However, right now more than anything we need to review what we saw Jesus do and then do it!
In Matthew chapter 4, we see Jesus led by the Holy Spirit into the desert where He drew near to God and was attacked by the devil. The bottom line in this encounter was that Jesus said what He heard God say and He chased the devil away.
Lesson number one then is to say what God says! So often people are very aware of the tactics that the devil uses, but do not seem to have confidence in the solution that Jesus revealed. We know that God says to submit to Him and resist the devil and he will flee, but for some reason we have more confidence in the enemies determination to attack that we do in God’s ability to chase him away. Yes, Jesus did reject him three times before he gave up, but even it was 30 times so what. Learn from the best!
After Jesus got rid of the devil, angels came to help Him and He began to tell people His message. “Change your hearts and lives, because God’s Kingdom is coming soon.” It does require a change in mind and attitude to accept and walk in what Jesus was about to unveil.
Lesson number two: do whatever you must do in order to receive the revelation of the Kingdom of God. Jesus called two sets of brothers right off of their boats to follow Him. They heard is voice and went His way. If we want His Kingdom we will need to hear His voice.
The message He delivered was the Good News about God’s Kingdom. He then demonstrated the Good News. He healed all the people’s diseases and sicknesses. That is good news. He cast out the demons. That is good news.
Many have experienced these things on a small scale, but Jesus did not do anything on a small scale and He said we should do more. How could we do more? There are more of us. Remember, He sent out the disciples and gave them power and they went all over and did the same things He did. Peter, Paul, John, Stephen, and many others did what they saw Jesus do and we really can do the same. So even if we have witnessed or experienced a little, more would be new. That is why we need to review to prepare for the new! God is ready to do a new thing as soon as we are ready. Remember, “Grace does.” Where sin does much, Grace does much more. Great grace is upon you just like great grace was upon Jesus. Are you ready for something new? Are you ready for more?
