RIGHTER
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ. (Ephesians 1:3)
God has blessed us, and He is blessing us, and one day, He will bless us beyond what we can hope or imagine just because we love Him. There was a song from years ago that said, “You better find somebody to love.” Our lives were spent looking for that somebody.
Well Jesus is that somebody. He is the only one that will not leave us. I heard a man on a television show that was sad, disgusted, and confused. He told his son that he spent his life finding the woman he loved so much and then she died. He wondered what it was all for.
We all come to moments of what is the use. We have snow and wind and I shoveled out yesterday, but a few hours later it was worse than before. I laughed as I ran through it and made plans for this morning. Some places were better this morning! Some places, not so much.
We all desire deep down, to be right and do right. God promises to cleanse us of all unrighteousness which implies that we then have the rightness in us to keep moving toward the goal for the prize of the high call of God in Christ Jesus.
No one likes it when things are not right, and because of that, people tend to decide for themselves what is right and what is alright. What is right for one may not be what someone else thinks is right. That is why God made(created) things right and set up standards of what was is and always will be right. As Christ works in us, we become righter, and we learn to do things righter.
The thing is righter does not always make sense. People always have a problem with Jesus’ teaching about if someone takes your coat, give him your shirt also and if a person hits you on one cheek, turn your other cheek to him. It would seem right enough to not get bent out of shape over a coat, but Jesus shows us a better(righter) way! And if you think that is a little crazy, He throws in the other cheek challenge.
And just so we don’t get all puffed up and proud, being righter is only to bring glory to God not to ourselves. In fact, being righter does not demand that we be right, it simply requires that we choose God’s way.
God said that His ways are higher than our ways. Do you ever wonder what God is up to? Have you learned to shake your head and smile when it makes no sense at all? In those times we can learn to do the righter thing and simply trust Him.
I know that people say we can yell and scream and be mad at God because He can take it, but why? Why would we want to do that? At the Red Sea, the first thing the people did was yell and complain about how things were. God still parted the water, but they could have done it righter.
Like all the things that God requires of us, we need Him in order to do it. We have everything we need to choose the righter way and a lifetime to be perfected if we desire to be righter.
