ROAD MAPS
Yes it is God who is working in you. He helps you want to do what pleases Him, and he gives you the power to do it. (Philippians 2:13 ERV) Read Philippians 2:1-18
Road maps do not always have the construction marked on them. With all our technology, many folks have a tendency to simply put the address in the system and let the lady guide them turn by turn to where they want to go. It works most of the time. In South Dakota, we know there will be construction somewhere; we just hope it will not be where we are or that we will not have to detour. The thing is; we get on the road to go somewhere and the same should be true of our lives in Christ Jesus.
I was thinking about this as I prayed this morning comparing my walk with Jesus to the way we ride the motorcycle. We look at a map and plan our route. This made me consider whether or not I plan my route with Lord on a daily basis. Jesus gave us a prayer that covers that, but I wondered if I actually covered that. No matter what, I decided I should do it better and more intentionally.
When I spoke before abut rough roads; we were on the road to go somewhere. Even when signs warned that something was coming ahead we believed that since they did not tell us to turn around and go back we would be ok. We were prepared to continue.
The Bible is a guide. It is a road map. It is life to those who find it and health to all flesh. When we are on the Bible road or the Kings Highway, we can be sure to run into some areas of construction.
Have you ever driven on a road and it seemed just fine and then the next day you see the construction signs up and they are fixing what you thought was fine? In fact, it was much better than driving through construction.
That is the way our walk with God is at times. We are going along and we think it is all fine and then we see in God’s word a construction sign. We get stopped by the flagman (the Holy Spirit) who says there is work to be done. He then gets in the pilot car to lead us through. We then have the choice to follow, pull over to the side of the road, or turn around. There are in fact times when we are on such a bad road that we just must turn around. I was there many years ago, so I know about that one. But here we are talking about planning to follow the Lord and refusing to turn back. Our daily plan should be to follow His lead. It is a commitment and it is always for our benefit even if at times it does not look or feel like it.
I have followed the turn by turn guides of Google maps when they led me through residential areas that seemed way crazy, but once I was on the route I was determined to keep going for two reasons. I had no idea where I was, and if I was going to ask it I had to trust it. I figure I should follow God with at least that much confidence. How about you? Let’s take a journey together with God. Think about what we have in Christ!
