ROOTED IN HIM
As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving. (Colossians 2:6 & 7 NKJ)
In His word, God speaks much about roots. Everyone who has taken care of a yard knows about roots. When I was a kid we spent a lot of time digging up roots that spread through our yard from a large tree. It had roots going down, roots going out and roots coming up. They were a problem that is for sure. It seems to me that we should be like that tree and be a problem to the kingdom of darkness.
We should have roots going deeper and deeper into Christ. We should also have roots that are spreading that good news of the Kingdom of God and that good news should be coming up everywhere we go. Remember, the depth of our faith determines the height of our flight. The deeper our roots go into Him, the higher we fly in the Kingdom of God.
Our roots in Christ establish our faith. If our roots are in anything else, then that is where our faith is. Faith in anything or anyone other than Christ ultimately leads to destruction. The evidence of this fact is everywhere to be seen. There are so many caught up in destructive lifestyles who really do not realize that they have set their roots in places that God never intended them to be.
No one was born to go to prison. No one was born to be a murderer or a thief or any of the other things that destroy us. We become those things when we choose the deception of the thief who comes to steal, kill, and destroy us. I know that science does great things and God has given them great gifts. I only wish they would not spend so much time trying to give people excuses for their choices.
The truth is that there is no valley so deep that faith in Christ cannot raise a person out of it. This was proven over and over during His ministry and has continued throughout history. The key is sinking those roots deeper and deeper into Christ and becoming more and more grounded in our faith.
I do not know why it sometimes appears not to work out the way the Bible says. Well, actually I do. The devil is a master of illusions and delusions. He keeps working to deceive people into believing lies.
Faith on the other hand is the evidence of things not seen. So faith knocks the darkness out of the way and allows the light to shine through. Sometimes we really have to squint to see that ray of light. Sometimes it seems there is just no light to see, but even then faith in Christ enables us to imagine how He will provide instead of spending our time imagining how much worse it is going to get. So we can choose what He says or what circumstances say. We can fly through or we can fall through. Sink those roots in Him.
