SALVATION

With long life I will satisfy him and show him My salvation. (Psalm 91:16 NKJ)

I think we all have thoughts concerning the word salvation and how it applies to our lives. When I looked in the dictionary I found that all but one definition had something to do with deliverance from the power and effects of sin. The other definition spoke of something that saves from danger or difficulty. All of the definitions fit right in with my initial understanding of salvation, and I think the same can be said for most that have come to know Jesus Christ. Over time, I have found that salvation involves much more, but if we are not careful we can neglect it and allow it to grow stagnant.

The truth is there are probably as many opinions concerning salvation as there are people who have experienced it, because it is something that is very personal to each and every one of us. However, we should all be careful not to allow our own personal thoughts and experiences concerning salvation keep us from God’s plan of salvation. As He states in this verse of Psalm 91, “With long life I will satisfy him and show him My salvation.” Could it be that God has a greater salvation plan that we understand?

Of course He has a greater salvation plan! That is why He said He would show us His salvation. I think God knew we would think too small when it came to His salvation. I think that the verses in this Psalm that are so precious to so many, actually give us at least a glimpse of all that He has included in His salvation plan. When you read this Psalm do you see it as probable or impossible? Do you see it as God’s promise or as wishful thinking?

If we are not careful, we can be found guilty of treating salvation like a retirement plan. You know, you get your sins forgiven and now you are ready for heaven where you will experience salvation. That is just wrong! In heaven we will experience heaven. Now we need to experience the Kingdom of God!

When troubles come, we need the Lord’s salvation to deliver us. When sickness comes, we need the Lord’s salvation to heal us. When things are good, we need the Lord’s salvation to keep us from forgetting Him. God’s salvation is a lot more that deliverance from the power and effects of sin. God’s salvation is life.

God said He would satisfy us with long life, so His salvation satisfies. If we are not satisfied, then we are not experiencing His salvation. You understand don’t you, that a person can be saved and not satisfied? No wonder He said that godliness with contentment is great gain. Don’t settle for small ideas about His salvation.

Don’t settle for what you or anyone else knows now. Continue to drawer more deeply from the wells of the Lord’s salvation. He promised to satisfy you and show you His salvation now in this life. Can’t you just feel satisfaction coming as you think about His salvation?
