So what did Abraham get in his blessing package? First, he got to go without knowing where he was going. Does that sound good to you? Have you ever felt like God had you heading in a direction without direction? If so, did you find yourself in unfamiliar surroundings tempted to head back where you were? There is no doubt that when we put our faith in Christ, things change. However when you think about it, wasn’t God always faithful to see us through. The only time He does not see us through is when we stop following!

As we look at how God led and blessed Abraham we can see good reason to hold on to this promise of the Holy Spirit. God helped Abraham even when Abraham was not helping himself. He protected Abraham when Abraham went to the wrong place and put his wife in a terrible position. This just another proof of the truth that God is faithful even when we are not. No doubt we will make some wrong turns, but God is faithful! Don’t let go of that truth.

God blessed Abraham when family and goods were stolen. God saw to it that everything was restored. When things go wrong, don’t focus on what is wrong! Focus on Christ! He is the solution and the one who can and will fix things. He is the fixer! That is part of the blessing. He is the manifestation of the blessing!

Abraham was so sure of the blessing of God that when he and Lot were going to part ways because they were too blessed to keep their herds together, he allowed Lot to choose first. Of course Lot chose the best part, but that was not a concern to Abraham. Sure enough, just as soon as they had made the deal God rewarded Abraham’s trust, telling him that everything he could see was his.

Part of the blessing was also being a blessing. When we are working on being a blessing, God is even busier working on our blessing. After all, it is hard to bless others if we are not blessed. That is just the way God is, and He expects us to believe that! Even when God told Abraham to sacrifice His son, God increased Abraham’s blessing because there was nothing Abraham would not trust Him with. I have experienced times when God told me to trust Him with my children and it did not look like He was paying much attention, but He has never failed.

The truth is that God cannot fail! Don’t be afraid to expect His blessings. Don’t be afraid to remember His benefits. Don’t be afraid to call on the God of Abraham and to claim that same blessing. He is the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. If He would not withhold His own Son, what good thing would He withhold from you? Start by being a blessing and see what God will do.
