SAME MIND...SAME ATTITUDE
Your attitude should be the same that Christ Jesus had. (Philippians 2:5 NLT)
As I recently heard this verse of scripture quoted, I felt God speak in my heart concerning this attitude. Previously when I have considered this verse I have focused on the way that Jesus gave up His place in heaven and came to earth and died a criminal’s death. This is obviously true because it is what God’s Word says, but what about His attitude.
He lived knowing that no weapon formed against Him could prosper unless He said so. He came to earth to show us how to live. He knew when He left His heavenly kingdom that God would be with Him and that nothing would be impossible. He was way more powerful than superman, and there was nothing that could weaken Him. He did weep out of concern for us, but in every circumstance, He knew He was in charge.
What was His attitude when hundreds of sick people packed around Him? He simply healed them all. He was never intimidated by any disease because His Father sent Him to heal the sick. He was certain that if God made the plan then it was a good one and it would succeed. Didn’t He tell us that just as the Father sent Him, now He was sending us? So what should our attitude be toward sickness and disease?
What happened when they would come to try and trick him or even to kill him? God gave Him wisdom that left them standing with their mouths open while he just walked away. He knew that He would determine the time when they could arrest Him.
What about death? Even when He came across people who were already dead He spoke the word and they were raised. Nothing could shake Him. When it came to provision, even the question of paying taxes. That did not bother Jesus. God provided in the mouth of a fish. He never had any doubts about God supplying his needs. When they needed to feed thousands He fed them.
Oh what about storms? Jesus could rest right through them. And when they disturbed His rest, He simply commanded the storm to cease. Yes we should all have the same attitude that Jesus had. We should all have the same assurance of the Father’s favor. When He needed to get somewhere, there was nothing to difficult. He could even walk on the water if that was what was necessary.
Finally, even though He was greatly stressed in the garden, He was sure that God would see Him through even the death on the cross. And of course God did. Death could not hold Jesus and death cannot hold you either. It is my desire to walk with an attitude of confidence in the promises and the favor of God. Jesus did and so should we.
