SAVE THE PEOPLE
“you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sin.” (Matt. 1:21 NLT)
Jesus has been saving people from forever it would seem. From the people who believed the prophecies and looked forward to His coming like Simeon who declared that he could die in peace because he had seen his savior, to all who will believe now and forever; Jesus saves!
It seemed as though all I could think of throughout the night was, save the people. But only Jesus can save people! How can we save people? We can agree with Jesus. We can imitate Jesus. We can care. We can love. We can pray!
To be honest, I spent a bit of time repenting for things and people I failed to pray for. Some images that we see in the news have prompted less than prayerful responses. I may not have been lost in the same way, but I was lost! I needed to be saved from my sins.
I often wonder why Jesus bothered with me. He cared! It stands to reason that He expects me to care. He does not give me a place to stop caring. We are told that there are sins that will not be forgiven, but to be honest, I think we are supposed to leave that to Him. We should just pray.
Joseph was in a difficult position when the angel came and told him this. He had already made a plan for handling the situation. How could this child possibly make a difference in the world, let alone save people? It is ok to yield to God’s plans!
How can we make a difference? How can one life make a difference? Do you ever think about one person that you pray for making a difference? If your prayer only makes a difference in that one life, you accomplish something eternal.
There are so many testimonies of people who were changed and ended up changing thousands of lives. Make a decision to make a difference even if you cannot imagine how you could.
Imagine the difference that Joseph made in Jesus’s life. He was a dad who set a godly example for his son. His son in turn looked to his heavenly father.
Chances are that you have made more of a difference that you think. Everything you do to honor God. Everything you do with an intent to bring Him glory. There is no small thing that we do. We need to increase our confidence and awareness for what God can accomplish when we agree with Him.
Mary agreed with God. Joseph agreed with God. We can agree with God. More than two thousand years ago, Mary and Joseph were traveling by donkey to complete their journey. I am sure they were both wondering how everything would work out. Even after the birth, and the shepherds and wise men, I can imagine a lot of questions.
We all have questions. We all wonder. And yes, we all may wander. Still the Lord is faithful. We can be faithful too. We have no idea which act of faithfulness will be the one that opens the eyes of someone so they can see the one who can save them. Be prepared to share your faith in Jesus.
