SAY SOMETHING

I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ Jesus, that you were enriched in everything by Him in all utterance and all knowledge, even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you...(1 Corinthians 1:4-5 NKJ)

“All you had to do was say something!” Have you ever heard these words? Have you ever spoken these words? I think the answer in both cases is probably a great big yes. People have a problem and tell someone about it and the response is, “Why didn’t you say something or you should have said something. There are so many different times when this particular thought is implied; perhaps with different words, but the idea is that if something would have been said, things could have been different.

Misunderstandings turn into big problems because someone does not say something. Circumstances spin out of control because someone does not say something. There is a reason that the Word of God says so much about words!

I like the fact that Paul is always saying something. He speaks faith to the people. He acknowledges that Christ enriched them in everything. He enriched with knowledge so they would speak correctly. If we speak right then we can speak of things that are not as though they are and see them come to be.

If we are wise then, we will speak good things into being and not bad things. I believe it is safe to say that we prefer that good things happen. Since this is what we prefer, why is it that we often find ourselves declaring the arrival of bad things?

Sometimes I think that God must listen to us and say, “Why in the world would you say something like that?” We have been enriched in all things by Christ Jesus. Since this is the case, we should consider His testimony. We should consider what He had to say about us and about our future. We should consider what He prayed for us and what He said that God would do for us. We should consider what He is praying for us today!

We have a rich vocabulary in our hearts that is prepared to come out of our lips. In Christ we have it all. We just need to understand what we have. Once we understand what we have, then we need to work it out in our lives. We need to learn to apply it. Since God’s Word is a continual revelation, we are continually learning. We choose how quickly we grow. Our age of technology presents a picture of this to me.

My children started text messaging long before I did. I just could not see the use of it. Actually I was much the same with the idea of a computer! Anyway, my children sent me text messages whether I liked it or not. In fact, it was the only way I really heard much from some of them. More and more it became the easy way to stay in touch and finally I ended up getting a plan in order to keep up. Now I am one who encourages others to text. The Word of God works, we just need to say what it says. Don’t say just anything; say something that comes from the riches of Christ Jesus!
