SEARCH AND RESCUE

Search me, O God and know my heart. Try me and know my anxieties. And see if there is any wicked way in me and lead me the way everlasting. (Psalm 139:23-34)

Lord, keep an eye on my thoughts; make sure that I do not have any that exalt themselves against you. Above all Lord, keep me aware so that I do not let thoughts go and turn into ways that are not yours.

I was reading in Romans chapter eight about the Holy Spirit leading us when this scripture about God search me and know me came up. I was suddenly so aware of how thoughts can turn to ways.

When we are deceived, it is usually by a seed. A thought. Something we hear or think on our own. There are times when a mob mentality catches people up and they join in on something that they have no idea where it will lead to.  We see much of this these days. They get taken captive unaware, as the Bible tells us.

How often do we hear someone say that if they had any idea what would happen, they never would have gotten involved. We never start out wanting to be led astray!

It is important to guard our thoughts and who can guard them better than the Lord? Don’t just ignore a small thing. Take it captive and cast it out. Those small thoughts that seem insignificant are little foxes that the devil uses to see where we are willing to go!

It is like little spots that doctors look for that may mean nothing to us, but they can irritate us and cause us grief that we have no idea of.

My wife has been dealing with issues in her back for over three years. They started with a small slip that seemed like nothing. Now, things in the back are looking promising, but there is a small sore that has gone from a nuisance to an aggravation, too, it has to go! And go it will in Jesus name.

It reminds us that even a little thing can become a big thing. Have you ever broken or badly bruised a little toe? If you have, you find out that it is not so little. It becomes the largest part of your body in no time at all!

Yes, suddenly, this verse began to speak to me in a whole new way about how our thoughts are what turn into ways. Before I knew the Lord, I had very few, if any, thoughts about the Lord. I relied on my own thinking or outside things that influenced my thinking and my life. I did well sometimes and terribly at other times and did not think that was a big problem. Boy, was I wrong.

Now I am very aware of how I must guard my thoughts. I must invite Holy Spirit to help. Truly I want Him to take total control, but He will only help. If I am attentive to His leadership, I will catch the thoughts before they become ways or actions.

If I miss His lead, and find myself acting out of line, I can return to the everlasting way that God intends. Lord keep searching and keep rescuing me from ways and thoughts that are not yours.
