SECRETS

Friendship with the Lord is reserved for those who fear Him. With them He shares the secrets of His covenant.(Psalm 25:14 NLT)

What a friend we have in Jesus. Oh, now there is a song that people love to sing. No truer words were ever spoken. Jesus is the truest friend that anyone could ever have. He offers His friendship along with His unconditional love. In fact, He said that He calls us friends. For His part, He is faithful and true. Unfortunately there is a catch to this, and as usual the variable in the equation is us. If there is a weak link in the things of God, it is always on our part. We seem to have a hard time receiving them.

I know that there are those who think that God is just always going to do His part no matter what we do, but the truth is He often tells us what our role is. In order to find, we seek, in order to receive we ask, and etc. When it comes to being a friend, Jesus is always ready. But have you ever thought that someone is your friend only to find out they did not care to be. Jesus truly wants to be our friend, but we all know that a one sided friendship is not very enjoyable or fruitful.

Jesus has a place in the inner circle waiting for all of us, and as this Psalm says, He is ready to reveal the secrets of His covenant to His friends. He has given us the Holy Spirit who searches the deep things of God and reveals them to us. Have you ever told someone something that you felt was really important, and they just sort of shrugged it off? How did it make you feel? Probably not very good. Think how God must feel when He tells us such important things in His Word, and we just read right through them, close our bibles and feel like we have fulfilled our religious obligation.

Don’t you think He would like for us to read this and suddenly shout, “YES!” “Oh yes Lord I want to know the secrets, I want to be your friend. Tell me quick Lord, show me every step I should take. I am so sorry I have neglected your friendship, but that is in the past Lord, now I can see that I have been missing so much.” “Lead on Oh King Eternal!”

How do you suppose that God would respond to that attitude in His people? Actually, we know how He responds. There are people who are living in that friendship zone. There have been different people who entered into that arena throughout time. Enoch was in that zone, and then he was gone. Abraham was in that zone and he inherited the promise that was to come to all of us. Jesus walked in that zone and took away the sins of the world.

God has such a desire to share the secrets of His covenant with His people. He is just waiting to pour His blessings on His children. Why is it that we have such a hard time accepting that? Why is it that we so readily believe that judgment is coming, but let someone suggest that God might like to bless us between now and then and they are called false prophets. If God calls upon us to be blessings, doesn’t it stand to reason that He is going to lead us into being blessings by the example if His blessings poured out on us?

The way I see it, we can do what the word of God says. We can respond to His promises, or we can just shrug them off and go our own way. If shrug them off, we better not blame God when we are not experiencing His goodness. And we really better be careful not to get angry with someone who is experiencing His blessings and trying to let others in on the secret. God is good and He has good plans for His friends. His secrets are the best!
