SECURING THE ARMOR

HOW?

Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit…(Ephesians 6:18 NKJ)

A question that is asked in every realm of life is “how.” It seems to me that it is asked even more in Christian circles. We learn things that we need to know and then we wonder how to make them a part of our lives. God promises so many things and we wonder how He is going to do all He promised. Jesus went to great lengths to explain things to those He taught and they still wondered how He did what He did. Here we are 2000 years later with all the proof that we could ever want and we are still asking, “how” can we be sure.

How can I be sure I have not sinned? How can I be sure God will forgive me? How do we know what is right and what is wrong? Well God knew we would always be questioning Him and His Word, so He put the answers to every possible question right in plain view. The only way we can miss them is if we really prefer not to know the truth right at that moment. Especially when we consider that the Holy Spirit bears witness in our hearts as to what is truth.

Still, there is nothing wrong with asking how. It shows that we really want to know. And as we grow more confident in our relationship with the Lord and in understanding His teachings the “how” of things becomes more and more clear.

As we look at the armor of God and we begin to understand just how important it is, the question of how to put it on and keep it on invariably comes up. How do we fix it if it comes loose? Or how can we be sure it is not loose?

The armor consists of truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and the Word of God; which contains and confirms all of the others. The Word is truth, and will produce all the armor in our lives.

The thing that seals and secures the armor is prayer in the Spirit, both with understanding as God gives light and in other languages or tongues as the Bible calls it. No wonder the devil tries so hard to keep people from praying in the spirit. When we do, we are built up in the Holy Spirit and our armor is so secure that he has a hard time deceiving us.

The Lord told us to put on the armor and He knew we would wonder how to do it. He also knew we would wonder how we could be sure it was on and that it would stay on. That is why He told us to pray always and be watchful with perseverance. Talking to God is the key to everything. That is “how” we stand against all the wiles of the devil.
