SEE...BELIEVE...BUILD
Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe(John 4:48 NKJ) Believers were increasingly added to the Lord(Acts 5:14 NKJ)
Some would like to think that Jesus was rebuking the man who wanted Him to come and heal His son, but if that was the case, why did Jesus go ahead and do it? Looking at it from another perspective, one could say that Jesus was making a statement of fact. In fact, Jesus ministry began with miracles, proceeded with miracles, and He ended His earthly ministry by rising up into heaven. He then continued to confirm the good news with signs and wonders as he worked with the apostles. To this day, He continues to do miracles and many wonder why, or how, or if in fact it is God.
How God does what He does, is something that I can not begin to answer. Are the golden miracles that are taking place around the world really God? I choose to believe they are. Why is He doing it? I guess that is His business, but it seems that it has been His choice since the very beginning to do the unbelievable.
God did give us eyes to see. So is it so strange that He would choose to do things that we can see with our eyes? This does help to open the eyes of our understanding as well. In the account from John, Jesus had done a miracle using Knowledge that God gave Him about the woman to convince her He was the Christ. She in turn told others and they believed enough to check for themselves. Then having heard and seen Jesus themselves, they believed even more. This word spread and a man came to ask that Jesus heal his son and Jesus did. I do not think it would be stretching the truth, to assume that many others in the area where the man and his son lived became believers because of what they saw.
Seeing helps us in believing, and I also believe that believing helps us to see more. The more we see, the more we believe. The more we believe, the more we see. Add to this, that the more we see and believe, the more we say. The more who hear, will come to see, and the more who see will believe and in this way, more are added to the kingdom of God. This of course was what Jesus came to do. Build the Kingdom of God. This is what He has called us to do as well.
God has always used signs and wonders to build His Kingdom. Who can say which is the greatest miracle, Gold fillings, or the salvation of one who believes God after seeing them. Is the healing of a heart, a knee, or a gold crown on a tooth greater than the miracle of a heart that has been filled with bitterness, suddenly being filled with love after seeing this kind of love from God.
Personally, I love every single miracle that God does. I don’t think we can call any of them small, nor can we consider one more significant than another. The fact is, that something one person might see as very unimportant, could be life changing for another. As believers, we are supposed to be believing and then God will do the proving.
There have always been those who resisted the things that God does. There will always be skeptics. But I have never heard a report yet where any skeptic added one person to the Lord, or brought any love or joy or peace to any gathering. Think about that. More Lord, More!!!
