SEED THOUGHTS

A farmer went out to sow seed. While he was scattering the seed, some of it fell beside the road. People walked on the seed, and the birds ate it all. (Luke 8:5 ERV)

God’s Word is so amazing! There is no way to ever get beyond the Holy Spirit’s ability to illuminate the truth. I really could not say how many times I have read the parable of the sower but it is a lot, and in all that time I have not really paid attention to what happened to the seed on the path before the birds ate it. The NKJ says that it was trampled down. We may tend to think this is just unbelievers, but I don’t think so. So I ask myself, how often do I just walk on the seed and let the birds have it.

We have all read this parable or at least heard it and we know about the different things that happen to the seed and we all like the seed that produces a great crop. We know about considering the soil and we have to believe that all of the word is good seed. If we do not believe that, they are nowhere near the Kingdom of God.

Today, let’s really consider the seed that is trampled or walked on. How often have we had seed scattered right on the path for us to scoop up and produce a harvest with and just walked over it? What about that seed that convicts and challenges us at inconvenient times. What about those opportunities that the Holy Spirit gives and we ignore them?

I remember a time early in my walk with the Lord when my wife and I went to a large crusade. It was amazing. I felt God’s presence in the parking lot and at the time really did not know what I was sensing. The only comparison I could make was how I used to feel when I was getting ready to party. There was excitement in the air!

Well during that crusade they passed the offering bucket and I wrote what I felt was a very generous check. I put it in and the bucket went on and the Lord told me to double it. I said the check was already gone. He said to write another twice as big! Well, what could I do? I will be honest and tell you that I started to write again for the same amount to double it, but the Lord made it clear that the second check was to be twice what the first was! I took the opportunity to be obedient and I believe that it was great seed for my life. I could have trampled on it and kept going, but I am glad I did not.

We also need to realize that God is not the only one planting seeds. We need to be prepared to trample the seeds of the enemy and scoop up the seeds that God provides. When we come to the Lord, we are on a path that leads us ever closer to Him. He continually scatters seeds for our benefit. We need to be tuned in so that we do not trample on what He is giving us. I was a pretty new believer when God scattered the giving seed for me. I could have walked right on it and passed it by, but what might I have missed.

Have you trampled any seed? I am certain I have. I have asked the Lord to help not to do that anymore and to show me if there is any I need to find and gather up.
