SEEDS NEED WATER
I honestly want to know everything you teach. (Psalm 119:131 CEV)
We all know that seeds need water to grow to maturity and produce a harvest. This was not the case in the Garden of Eden, but once sin entered the world things changed. In the garden everything was pretty fine, but once they were shut out, the rules changed and they had to do things by the sweat of their brow. Jesus came to change the rules for His followers, and to destroy the power of sin over our lives. God sent His word and healed our diseases. He sent His word to provide for and to protect us. He says that if we can believe all things are possible then all things are possible. These words are seeds that will produce a harvest when planted in good soil and kept watered by the washing of the Word of God.
We have talked about preparing soil. We have considered where we are in our confidence and confession and whether or not we convinced that every Word of God is true. Consideration of all of these things has the potential to produce a great harvest. These seeds alone cover every aspect of faith in one way or another. Still, no matter how good the seeds are and no matter how good the soil is, without water they will not grow. Paul once stated that one plants and another waters but God gives the increase. There is no doubt that God could make every seed grow and produce a harvest, but He requires that we water the seed. Some farmers irrigate to make sure their crops are watered. I discovered that when people irrigate they continue to irrigate even if there is rain because irrigated crops require consistent water.
As Christians, I think we would be like irrigated crops. We need consistent water. Going to church should provide at least a sprinkle and an occasional down pour. There may be times when we leave feeling like a rice paddy, flooded and full, but these things are temporary. God requires that we consistently water the seed that is sown that it can grow up and produce a harvest.
David not only said that he really wanted to know everything God taught, but he said he would wake up in the night excited and seeking. Part of this was probably due to the fact that he knew firsthand what could happen if he lost sight of what God required of his life. We would do well to learn that same lesson the easy way from the experience of another rather than first hand because of our own failure to stay in the ways of God.
If we are convinced that God is who He says He is, then we should be determined to have all He says we can have and do all He says we should do. He is the answer to every problem we face personally, as a nation, and for the whole world. Consider the major things facing our nation right now. Healthcare, economy, and entitlements seem to get a majority of the attention. What would happen if everyone called on God our healer? Health would improve. Diseases would be destroyed. People would be wiser and doctors would be wiser. Problem solved. What if everyone began applying God’s economic principles and living according to His plan. Everyone would work, the economy would flourish and many problems would be solved.
If we will water these seeds and apply them, we will see them produce in our lives and then others who are seeking will see it and desire it and so on and so on. Don’t just leave seeds sit. No matter how well you have prepared the soil, they still need water to produce a harvest. No one else can water your garden like you can and must. That is the way God set it up and if we want the harvest and truly desire to see the Kingdom of God advanced then we need to take responsibility for our part in it.
