SEEING GOD
Try to live in peace with everyone, and seek to live a clean and holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord. (Hebrews 12:14 NLT)
Some Greeks came to the disciples one day and told them they would like to see Jesus. They wanted to spend some time with Him in person, not just in a crowd with everyone else around. It was said of the Greeks that they liked to sit around and ponder whatever there was to ponder about any number of gods. They wanted to see this man Jesus, who claimed to be the Son of God. I am sure that they had heard the stories of all the things He was doing and they recognized that He had all the credentials that would qualify Him as a god. They wanted to see Him for themselves to see if He was the One True God.
This is what everyone must do. Everyone must see Him for themselves. Just as Jesus was God’s representative, He has made it very clear that we are His representatives. It was because Jesus represented God is such a glorious way, that these folks were drawn to see Him and thus have the opportunity to see God for themselves. As I began to consider the verse from Hebrews, the Holy Spirit brought to my mind the verse about these folks who wanted to see Jesus. The verse in Hebrews tells us to live at peace with all men, and to live a clean and holy life because the unholy will not see God. I felt like the Lord pointed out another truth that can be taken from this.
It is absolutely true that those who are not holy will not see God. They will not acknowledge Him now in this lifetime, even though He reveals Himself in the very air that we breathe. And, if they never acknowledge Him here, they will never see Him in eternity, unless of course they catch a glimpse of Him at judgment. I felt that God was saying to me, that we are their opportunity to see God and His goodness while on the earth. If we who belong to God do not reveal Him in the world around us, then those who are not holy will never see Him.
There is also the fact that when God’s children are not acting like God’s children, we should not be surprised if we do not see God. Though God is always working in and around our lives, we can pretty well stop the flow of His blessings and favor if we cease to seek Him and trust Him. However, when we seek and trust the Lord, our lives become an example of His goodness and favor and he can then bless us in order to make us blessings.
People need to see God and God very much desires to reveal Himself to this world. So it is important that we consider what sort of representatives we are. It is important for our sakes, and it is important for the sake of the multitudes that the bible assures us, are in the valley of decision. Consider this. If someone is pondering a decision concerning God and our Lord Jesus Christ and you happen to be the one they are looking at as they make their decision, will you have shown them enough Jesus so that they will want to see Him for themselves? I think is time we all prayed that God’s spirit would rise in us and reveal the true and living God to the world.
