SEEING IS BELIEVING
Then Jesus turned to His followers. They were alone with Him. He said, "It is a great blessing for you to see what you now see!" (Luke 10:23 ERV)
SEEING IS BELIEVING
While faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen, it is still a blessing when we can see. In fact, it is in seeing that we gain confidence to believe without seeing. I am sure you can see this!
We all see some things, but only God sees all things. When we see something, we can help others to see. When someone else sees something they can help us to see. Of course, not everyone is interested in seeing the same thing that someone else sees. Sometimes we are just not interested. Sometimes it is just not convenient or comfortable.
My wife often notices things that I do not even look for and often am not really that interested in. Still she points them out and I do my best to be interested. When we are on the motorcycle it is really not convenient to look but even then I will feel the tap on my shoulder. She does this because it is important to her, and because it is important to her, I look, because she is important to me.
Jesus knew that it was important for the disciples to see what He was showing them. He was important to them, so they did their best to observe and follow. Often times, they only pretended to understand when others were around. When they got alone with Jesus they would ask Him to explain what they just saw!
Not everyone is going to see everything we see nor are they going to see it the way we do to begin with, just as we may not see what someone else does. There have been many things that I felt like God has given me glimpses of and each glimpse makes it a little clearer but I am still straining for a clear look. I have one particular dream that He continues to remind of at different points. Things will happen. I will see something and He will remind me to remember the dream.
Then, there are the things that we come to know that we cannot describe. We see them in our spirit but we do not see a picture of them. They are as real to us as our reflection in the mirror, but there is just no way to describe them. It is always nice when we meet someone who knows exactly what we mean. It is funny to be able to enjoy that understanding and yet neither of you can explain it while you smile and enjoy it. It is sort of like when Jesus describes what the Kingdom of God is like. It is like a pearl or a field with a treasure; when we have see that, we can read it and just smile because we have seen it without seeing it.
It is important that we know and even more important that we share what we know in a way that shows we need to know more and at the same time draws others to want to know Christ for themselves. Can you see this? Does it make sense?
