SEEK FIND POSSESS INVEST
Ask and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock and it will be opened to you. (Matthew 7:7 NKJ)
The promise from God is that if you seek Him you will find Him. This promise runs throughout scripture. Everyone who seeks Him finds Him. He does not hide from the desperate cry of anyone. When God makes a promise He keeps it. Just because we do not keep our promises, that does not change God; remember He is faithful even when we are not.
We can get all caught up in what we think we know and attempt to separate who we think God will answer and who He will not, but if we stick with what He says we will have to come to the conclusion that when a person seeks they certainly will get a response. So the first effort is to seek, but then we must find. Have you ever been looking for something and missed it even when it was right there in front of you? Then when you find it, you see that it was right where you looked. Well, God is right there when we call, but we can certainly overlook Him and miss Him.
Personally, I called out to God on many occasions and made promises I never kept, because even though He did His part, I never found Him. To say we believe He exists is a far cry from finding Him. Once we have found Him, we must possess Him like the treasure that He is.
To possess God is to see His value and to guard His presence in our lives. Everyone wants God to perform on their behalf in desperate times which often results in that cry and seeking for Him and His help. If we have found Him and value Him, then we recognize that He has answered and give Him the glory. If we only seek and then things turn out better and we forget about Him, we have missed finding Him and experiencing His great value in our life.
Still, He has been faithful to respond when we seek. Never doubt that He does His part! If we do not expect to find Him, He will do many things in our lives because we sought without receiving one bit of acknowledgement from us. There are very few people that could say they are not guilty of this. Even those who have enjoyed knowing Him can be guilty of failing to notice what great things He has done for them.
So we must not only seek and find, but we must possess the greatness of the love and promises of God. We must know that He is always the same and hold fast to the truth of His word. When we posses and value God then we will not easily deny or doubt Him.
Finally we must invest ourselves in Him and invest Him in others. Once we have truly found Him and trust Him the proof is in our willingness to invest the promises into the lives of others. I believe this was what Jesus was talking about when He said that we should go into the entire world with the good news. If we possess it we can invest it.
