SEEKING SIGNS

But He sighed deeply in His spirit, and said, "Why does this generation seek a sign? Assuredly, I say to you, no sign shall be given to this generation."(Mark 8:12 NKJ)

Why was Jesus so disturbed that these Pharisees wanted to see a sign? Does this really mean that we should not desire to see signs and wonders from God. Not at all. I believe that Jesus took exception to the fact that with all the miracles that were taking place around Him and His ministry, these people still came wanting Him to prove Himself. Not only did they want Him to prove Himself, but even if He did, there hearts were so hard that they had no intention of believing in Him.

The fact is, we need signs and wonders now more than ever. God is not opposed to revealing Himself and His power in order to bring people into the kingdom. He did this all the time during Jesus earthly ministry and has continued to do miracles through willing servants ever since.

We do not seek signs in order to believe, but because we believe. We know God can do all that He says He can, and we want Him to do those things so that people will see His wonders and glorify Him because of it.

Not only do God’s miracles draw unbelievers, but they also increase the faith of those of us who do believe. Jesus’ own disciples marveled more and more with each new thing that they saw Jesus do. When Jesus sent them out, He told them to do miracles, and when they came back they were amazed because of the way that God moved in answer to their prayers.

As believers in this space in time, we should pray ever more fervently for signs from God. We should not hesitate to pray for a miracle in any situation. And when we pray, we should pray believing that God will hear and answer and receive glory for each and every sign. We glorify the God of the sign, not the sign.

Oh, let’s get excited about what God is planning to do. Let’s look for Him where ever we are, and join Him in what He is doing. As we enter this new year, let’s do it with great anticipation of what God is planning for each and every one who believes, and for those who will believe because of what He will do. Let’s make ourselves available to be used by God to do miracles in Jesus Name. This generation needs a sign from God, that will prove to them that there is only one true God….the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Only the turning of hearts toward God will over come the lack of morality and of righteousness in our land and around the world. I believe God is willing to do abundantly above and beyond all that we could hope or imagine to see that multitudes are saved. The question is…”What are you willing to do?”
