SERIOUSLY
Jesus said to the father, "Why did you say --˜if you can'? All things are possible for the one who believes." (Mark 9:23 ERV)
I would be hard to say which verse sets more people back than any other. We have verses about moving mountains, and speaking of things that are not as though they are, and well you probably have your own list. This verse is one that most certainly causes people to dig for the lid and their list of no ways! Seriously, He could not have meant –˜All things’ when He said –˜all things’, because we all have a long list of things that contradict this statement.
So what if we just forget our list and look at what He said, and take Him at His word? What if we were like the little engine that could? What if we were to just think we can and keep thinking we can because the promise is there?
I never scored a touchdown every time I touched a foot ball, but I did not quit running. No one makes every basket, but they keep shooting. No one hits with every invention, but they keep inventing. Do you see what I mean? The promise is there, and if we keep pressing, we will keep getting closer.
We can’t give up or give in; we need to just start to praise again. We praise God for His promises because we know He is a promise keeper. Nowhere in His word does He tell us to give up. Nowhere does He tell us that anything is impossible with God.
Everyone has suffered setbacks. Everyone has been disappointed. But no one has been set back by God or disappointed by God. He does not stand in our way and He does not cause us to fail. Every promise He makes, He keeps.
So what do we do? We trust and keep trusting. We pray and keep praying. We keep doing what He says and we get the results He promises. Oh how tempting it is to just put the lid on and leave all of this thinking out of our thinking. Remember, if we shut it out we are the ones who shut it out! Jesus did remove the lid and open the valve to the blessing of God for whoever will believe.
I do not pretend to have all the answers, but He does. For every doubt we have, there is a testimony to erase that doubt. For every prayer we have prayed and feel that God failed us, there is a testimony that He did the very thing we gave up on. If he did it for one, he will do it for another and He will do it for you. He is no respecter of persons; He is a rewarder of faith.
The truth is we often spend more time preparing not to get an answer than we do believing we will. We have a list of reasons why prayer is not going to work rather than confidence that it will. Seriously this is another lid to recognize and dispose of. Allow God to pour out a blessing that does not have to fight through our resistance. Seriously!
