Angels singing and proclaiming the birth of Christ; that is what Christmas is all about! After the grand production, they explained how they could find this new born king. They went and saw and they were in awe; but then what?

There is no doubt that there are a lot of opportunities to scratch our heads as we follow the star. Jesus is the Star! He was born so we could die and then live. We can live by believing that He defeated death. People say that no one knows what day they will die, but the truth is Jesus gives us the opportunity to choose the day we die and really begin to live in Him. Once we have made that choice we will never die again. Our earthly bodies will quit walking around but we will step into eternal life.

Simple faith makes that the easiest thing in the world to understand. The problem is that life gets complicated! Just as the shepherds really did not get the whole picture that night, the same is true as we walk with God. We do not always see the whole picture! That is why it is so important to simply stay focused on the main picture.

We know that Jesus was born. We also know that it was thirty years or so from the time they angels announced His birth until He began His ministry. There is little information to keep us up on what went on in those years. Once He was on the scene, He spent just over three years turning the world upside down and He was gone again.

There is plenty of proof to substantiate His life but still some refuse to believe. Colossians 2:12 tells us that we were called to share in His glory; do we believe that. Jesus said that all things are possible if we can believe. Do we believe that? The truth is that we sort of do and we sort of don’t. Sometimes the clear picture gets covered over by circumstances and doubt begins to win out.

We have all seen those abstract pictures that just look like a bunch of lines until we focus and manage to see the actual picture within the picture. Sometimes it takes a lot of concentration and effort to get that picture to clear up, but once we have found it we know it is there. Even if we cannot get it again we have no doubt about what we saw.

It may be that you saw things clearly once and then the picture, the promise, the hope, started to fade and now it is covered over completely. This is a good time to remember the simple faith that helped you trust in the first place. This is a time to remember that just as the shepherds found that baby and that baby was the Savior of the world, so it is with God’s promise to you.

Look to Him. He brings everything into focus. Do not give up. Do not give in. Just believe! Take a breath of the Holy Spirit and allow child like faith to take over.
