SO WHAT

It is true Lord, that the kings of Assyria have destroyed all these nations, just as the message says. And they have thrown the gods of these nations into the fire and burned them. But of course the Assyrians could destroy them! They were not gods at all...(Isaiah 37:18&19)

As you know, a messenger came to King Hezekiah and told him not to trust God to deliver him from the Assyrians. He told him to remember what they had done to all the other nations and to their gods. Well, Hezekiah did the smart thing. He took the letter up into the temple, and spread it out before the Lord. And he began to praise and glorify God. He began to declare the truth that God is the one true God of all the kingdoms of the world. And instead of getting fearful over the whole thing, he said that the message was true. He knew they had destroyed all those other nations, but in so many words, he said, “so what!”

So what if they had been successful against the others. So what if they had burned all those other idols of metal and wood. They were not gods at all. So Hezekiah asked God to take a look at what was said to him and to destroy the Assyrians so that all the kingdoms of the earth would know that He alone was God.

“How does this apply to us?” Let’s face it, when things are not going just right in our lives, the enemy sends us messages. He tells us how things have been before and tells us how things will always go. And believe me, he never encourages us that it will turn out in our favor.

For instance, if we get a pain, he reminds us of all the fatal diseases associated with that pain. Or we get a report from the doctor and he tells us every bad thing that will happen. Or perhaps we face a financial hurdle, and the enemy points out that no one ever recovers from a problem like that. What we have to do is learn to say, “so what!”

We may have even had a bad experience before in some area or another and it did not turn out well. So what. Now that we know better we do not have to accept the same outcome. We can do like Hezekiah and say that all those reports are true. Someone did go broke; someone lost their family, and so on and so on. But so what, it is not going to be that way for me. I know better. I know God, and I am going to trust Him to defeat this enemy and everyone will know that He is God.

We can be sure that if we will take that stand and not back up even for a second, that God will give us victory just as sure as He did Hezekiah. Make up your mind right now, that when the enemy comes with a message of doom, you are going say, “so what!” It does not matter how it was before, it won’t be that way anymore. God is on my side.
