SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED

...And you are complete in Him; who is the head of all principality and power. (Colossians 2:10)

Have you ever bought something with some assembly required? I am pretty sure we all have. Once when my wife and I were first married I came home to find a new dining room set that she had put together. She did pretty well, but she was not quite strong enough to really secure everything right. I was really pretty amazed that she had managed what she did. Just goes to show that if you want something bad enough you will put in the effort!

One thing about those things you have to assemble is that many of them really do require reading the instructions! Have you ever tried a project without reading the instructions and found it would have been easier to use them? Or have you ever had parts left over when you were done? If so, have you ever found that the left over part was pretty important and putting it in according to the instructions would have been a lot easier? Sometimes you can get away with just forgetting the part. Sometimes there are actually left over parts because they send you extras. And then there are the times when they do not send enough parts to complete the project. Thank God His package is perfect with nothing lacking and nothing useless!

As I was reading in Colossians and came to this verse stating that we are complete Him, my thought was that I have all the parts, but some assembly is still required. However, the really nice thing about the way God does things is that we start out complete. As we grow and discover the function of other parts they are easily inserted and function perfectly with the rest of the unit.

There are no extra parts! And no one gets special parts. In other words, there is nothing that God gives us that we can just leave out say we did not get in first place. Even though some may think they have the latitude to decide to leave things out, the truth is that we do not function up to full capacity without every part that God provides. It is one thing to have not yet discovered the part, it is quite another to look at the part and throw it away.

I also find it interesting that some parts that work well early on in our walk with God are later made to operate even better as new parts are found. It is sort of like putting something together without the lock washer and then finding the lock washer and putting it on. Before the lock washer was put on it kept coming loose but with the lock washer it stays tight. In Christ we run tight and smooth!

Even though we are made complete in Him, I do not think we ever run out of parts that improve how we operate in the Spirit of God. Never discard any part and never hesitate to put on more of Christ. His instructions are perfect and every part makes the other parts work better. Colossians 3:14 says, “Above all, put on love.” If you are having problems getting a part to fit, rub a little love on it and it will slide right into place. Keep building!
