SOMEONE YOU KNOW MAYBE YOU
The gardener answered, Sir, give it one more chance. Leave it another year, and I’ll give it special attention and plenty of fertilizer. If we get figs next year, fine. If not, then you can cut it down. (Luke 13:9)
As I read this scripture recently, I felt like it was my life. I looked at how God had miraculously changed my life and I simply began to praise Him for His amazing grace. I could just see that in 1983, perhaps on New Year’s Day, a discussion took place about the fruitless tree and I was it. But because of someone’s prayers and God’s grace they decided to give me a year. What a year it was. It was a battle for my soul. Thankfully, the Lord won.
We need to understand that God has given good gifts to each and every person and He longs for those gifts to produce fruit. He is patient and kind and His grace is amazing.
He watches as we ramble through life not even noticing Him or realizing how much we need Him. You know, we can go to church and still be fruitless. We can sit there and ignore Him. I did it for years.
If we have not known the joy of sins forgiven, it is quite possible that we are just like the fig tree that was not producing.
Prayerfully, no one who is reading this is in the year of waiting, but if you are, if this bears witness with your spirit; if you wonder could it be you, you are so blessed. Today if you hear His voice, don’t harden your heart. Don’t ignore what Holy Spirit is saying.
If on the other hand you feel like you experienced this too and you are just thankful to God, take a minute and praise Him. Take as long as you want to love and give Him thanks.
Of course, that is a never ending lifestyle. Everything causes us to praise and give thanks to God. But for this little notice, I want us to consider if there is someone we know that may very well be in this time of transition?
Sometimes people are experiencing the digging around in the soil of their lives. Holy Spirit will give us discernment if we will listen to Him. Someone may be in a perfect place for some fertilizer to help them. Even if they seem to be the least likely!
I was one of those and God brought around a wonderful group of people who really had no idea of how fruitless I was and I guess they did not care. They led me through the Word of God and the Word of God transformed my life. We have no idea when our last chance or when anyone’s last chance is. That is why Jesus spoke of today. We are all on one side or the other of this parable. We are fruitful or fruitless! Rejoice in the Lord for the opportunity and eyes to see!
