SOMETHING NEW
If you had know Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him. (John 14:7 NKJ)
I think we all know what it is like when the light comes on and we suddenly gain understanding. When we were children and two plus two became four it was amazing. Then came our times tables and we recited and recited them. I also remember way back then when I would lay in my parent’s bed and read the Dick and Jane books! Some of you will remember, “See spot run!” The thing is, two plus two did not become four when I figured it out; it was always that way and the same the times tables and reading and everything else.
Whether we accept it or not, all things were made by Him. Every good and perfect gift comes from God. The things that are new to us are not new to Him, yet He takes great pleasure in seeing us gain understanding; especially when we give Him the glory.
Let’s face it, there are a lot of things that Jesus said that require a lot of chewing before swallowing, and digesting is often an even longer process. If it requires so much for us to get this done when we have all these years of teaching and proof, imagine how it was for the first disciples. Do you think that they suddenly had total understanding when Jesus said, “From now on you know Him and have seen Him?”
Do you know Him? Have you seen Him? Is your answer a mixed answer? Are you certain sometimes and confused at other times? Don’t be discouraged by that. Keep at it. Jesus said it; so it is true. It was true before He said it!
He also said, “This is the way walk in it.” When you go for a walk, you do not know everything you are going to see. In fact you won’t see everything there is to see every time you go. So you just have to keep going.
Things changed when we learned to read, write, and understand math. Things also changed when we believed in God through His son Jesus Christ. From that time until now and on into eternity we have held the keys to the Kingdom of God. Some have used those keys and gone through many doors. Others have had the key on the ring so long they do not remember for sure what it is for. Still others have passed through a few doors and sat down or maybe even retreated. None of us have learned or experienced all that God has for us. There is still something new for us to experience.
Will we enter the New Year with a “from now on” attitude? From now on I know God. From now on I will see Him in everything, believe Him for everything above everything else that I see or hear. I pray that your “from now on” will be a series of “something new” and wonderful in the Kingdom of God.
