SPEAKING OF GOD
This I declare of the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I am trusting in Him. (Psalm 91:2 NLT)
It is truly a good thing to give thanks to the Lord. It is good to talk about His faithfulness and His love. Speaking of God reveals our trust in His ability to do all that He has promised. To declare that we are putting our trust in Him may often sound like foolishness to those who do not know Him, but that should not deter us from declaring how wonderful He is.
Speaking of God and all that He is helps to build our faith. Speaking about His promises and declaring His faithfulness reminds us of what is true. David in His psalms would speak to himself and remind himself that God would prevail and that He would praise the Lord for victory in the end.
As the Spirit of God moved on the writers of the Bible, they were continually reminding us that if God was for us, nothing could stand against us. We know that Christ in us is our hope of glory. We also know that God has promised never to leave nor to forsake us and so we can declare these things and take confidence in the declarations of our mouths.
It is fine to hear others talk about God’s faithfulness, but the truth is that it does us the most good when we repeat it out of our own mouths. With my mouth I will make known the faithfulness of God. I will say that the Lord is faithful and that He is my refuge.
Speaking of God is music to His ears. It is in fact prayer that He comes and dwells upon, for it is in fact praise. Surely there times to petition God, because there again we are telling Him that we are dependent upon Him for our every need, but often times as we declare His faithfulness we will be reminded that our need is covered by the very thing we are declaring. This causes us to declare our gratitude to God for His goodness, love, and faithfulness.
The Lord is our strong tower. He is our ever present help. God is our provider and shepherd. He cannot lie, nor can He fail.
Often times if we are not careful, our prayer time will sound more like doubt time. We question whether God has heard us, or we wonder if he really wants to help us. We forget that it was His idea to be our Father in the first place. We forget that He promised to answer when we call and so by the time we get done praying, instead of be energized and confident we come away worn out and wondering.
Jesus told us that if we would say, or speak to our mountain it would be removed. He said it would only take a tiny bit of faith to do this. Speaking of God builds our faith and faith in God moves mountains. Don’t ask God what He is going to do about your mountain, tell the mountain what God is going to do about it.
