SPIRIT LED
Then the Spirit led Jesus into the desert. (Matthew 4:1 ERV)
Why would the Spirit lead Jesus to the desert to be tempted by the devil? Well what better way to prove just how powerful God is? Jesus had just heard God tell everyone that He was His Son and that He was very pleased with Him. There is nothing like a manifestation of the power of God to increase the faith.
We need to keep in mind that Jesus was all man and all God, but He lived as a man full of the Spirit of God during his time of ministry and as a human seeking God previous to that. His parents told Him of His miraculous birth and He held on to that hope right up until God declared to the world that He was in fact His son.
Now the Holy Spirit had come upon Him and he went on a steep learning curve with the Holy Spirit’s guidance. We can assume that everything He taught and did after coming out of the desert was a result of what began to be revealed to Him while in the desert. After forty days of nothing but Spiritual food Jesus was hungry and full at the same time. He was full of revelation and hungry for physical food. His revelation was more powerful than His physical hunger and with the power of the Holy Spirit and the wisdom of God overflowing he put the devil in his place and then Angels met His other needs.
He was the express image of God and the preview of how God intended for us to be led by the Holy Spirit. What we are the hungriest for will determine who we follow and what we are fed! It really is that simple. We must lay down resistance, excuses, and confusion confessions and accept the simplicity that Christ revealed about being led by the Spirit.
Resistance comes from a desire to hold on to what we think we understand and controlling things for ourselves. Excuses are too numerous to list but we all have them, and how often do we hear ourselves or others declare that it is just too confusing to try and follow the leading of the Holy Spirit?
How do we know if we are following the Spirit? Well, when problems arise, what is our response? Do we fall apart or stand and keep standing. Do we run here and there looking for answers or to God and to Godly counsel? Are we like weeds tossed in the wind accepting temporary fixes or are we trees planted by the water that cannot be moved.
If we want the Kingdom of God manifested in our lives and through our lives, then we need to be consistent in our determination to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. God knows and we know if we are in fact led by the Holy Spirit. We would do well to repent for resisting, and make it our one desire to do what we see God do and say what we hear God say. Confusion and wavering will then go by the wayside. Victory is ours for the taking. Follow the Holy Spirit and He will lead you into all truth.
