SPREADING GOOD NEWS
By God's grace and mighty power, I have been given the privilege of serving Him by spreading this Good News. (Ephesians 3:7 NLT)
It is a liberating thing when we discover that we have been called to spread Good News. Though it may seem like people prefer to share bad news, the truth is that most people really would prefer to share good news. Just look at on line networks like face book; people will put up the strangest little notes about the oddest things, for reasons that only they know. They just want to tell somebody something!
Well for people who follow Christ, we have some seriously good news to share! Once we figure out what the good news is, it is an exciting thing to do. To be honest, I have never been very excited about telling people they are going to hell! I prefer to let them know that they can go to heaven and how to get there. It seems to me that Paul felt the same way!
He told them the Good News about Jesus saving them. He made it clear that only Jesus could save them. That is beneficial, because it removes confusion. I remember when Keith Green said that he tried about every religion there was and then decided to try Christianity because Jesus was the only one who said that He was the only way! It is good when there is only one answer. It makes it easy to pass the test! The answer is Jesus the Son of God.
If you read the previous chapters in the book of Ephesians, you see the good news that Paul was excited to share. He tells us about the inheritance that we have in Christ. He tells us about the power of God that guarantees us our inheritance. He tells us that the Holy Spirit empowers us and that we are in fact His inheritance. Yes, all He wants is us! Do you feel good yet?
When we become convinced that the Word of God is true, we begin to see that it is nothing but Good News, especially to those who believe it. It then becomes our responsibility to receive the promises of God in order to bring praise and glory to God. If we do not trust Him how can we expect others to trust Him? Paul prayed that we would understand the greatness of His power. This great power is not just the power to whisk us off to heaven someday. His intention has always been to reveal His great power now in the land of the living.
Even those who claim not to believe in God, hope there is a heaven and that it will be wonderful! We have the privilege of revealing His greatness now! He is above every power and authority in this world as well as in the world to come.
Paul clearly points out that we were dead in our sins, and that we used to live in sin because we were bound by the father of sin. But the Good News is that God gave us life when He raised Christ from the dead. It is a great deal and it comes with an amazing warranty. We get to be examples that God points to revealing the incredible wealth of His grace and kindness.
I told people recently at a funeral, that the five most important words that they could ever say and mean would be, “The Lord is my Shepherd.” Spread the Good News!
