SPROUTS

As he scattered them across his field, some seeds fell on a footpath, and the birds came and ate them. (Matthew 13:4 NLT)

We sing a chorus that says I went to the enemy’s camp and I took back what he stole from me; this came to my mind as I thought about stolen seeds. When I was a kid, there were times when my job was to get the sprouts off of the potatoes. Sometimes those same sprouts were left and we cut up the potatoes to grow more potatoes.

As I was considering the seeds that the birds stole, I thought about how we can go and take them back. I know for a fact that the ones the birds eat sometimes are replanted and grow a lot of plants. We have wild grape vines taking over our trees in parts of our yard. We never planted them, but there they are.

We all have seeds that are sprouting and we do not even know it. Just like the potatoes in the cellar, they are not being used. Sometimes, they are just broken off but other times they are put to use.

From time to time, we may be reminded by the Holy Spirit of things or we may have a tug on our hearts, but we treat it like sprouts we have no use for yet. We may forget, but God does not.

As I have looked over my life before Christ, I can recognize places where seeds would scattered and I just paid no attention. I treated them like unwanted sprouts on potatoes. However, over the last 37 years I have taken back what the devil stole from me. I have planted those seeds and used them in my life. I know there are still more.

The seeds may be dormant, but they are there to gather. God showed me this as we worshipped in the jail. There are seeds or opportunities for us to join in. Just like everywhere else, sometimes people look around to see if they are going to get caught up in what God is doing. Yes it is God calling! Sometimes we fight the urge and miss the immediate opportunity, but the seed is there. It is patiently waiting to produce a harvest.

Once we join in, we experience what God is offering. Once we experience His presence, we are never going to be satisfied with anything less than His best.

So I am encouraged and I encourage all who will, to consider the seeds that have been offered and let go. Go to the enemy’s camp and take them back. Don’t believe for a moment that they are any less productive just because they have been ignored and got a way. Take a moment and consider that they were yours and always will be yours. Don’t be discouraged because they slipped away. Be encouraged that you have the opportunity to scoop them up into your life. What is sprouting in you that is ready to produce the flow of the Kingdom of God for you?
