STABLE VALID AND GUARANTEED
Therefore, [inheriting] the promise is the outcome of faith and depends [entirely] on faith, in order that it might be given as an act of grace (unmerited favor), to make it stable and valid and guaranteed to all his descendants--"not only to the devotees and adherents of the Law, but also to those who share the faith of Abraham, who is [thus] father of us all. (Rom. 4:16 TAB)
The word of God is full of promises. One promise is that if we are double minded concerning the promises of God we will receive nothing from Him. I realize this is not the kind of promises we like to concentrate on, but it is one we better seriously consider. The truth is that this is one promise that most Christians have experienced over and over again. If we don’t expect anything we should not be surprised when God does not do anything? We may think it sounds good to say that we are just leaving it up to God, but He is waiting for us to activate our faith and show that we trust Him.
The great thing is that we can change all of that by simply changing our minds as we set ourselves to seek the Lord. We must be convinced that the Word of God is stable. It is immovable. It does not change. It is always true. In other words, we can depend on it and we can depend on Him to reveal His truth to us. One of the devils favorite things to do is to get people to question what God has said. He figures it worked on Eve and it will work on the rest of us as well. Take that trick away from Him. Stand on God’s Word and declare that He is true and anything that stands apposed to that fact is a lie and from the devil.
We must also be rock solid on the validity of God’s Word. In other words it always works. It is always valid tender for all circumstances. Webster defines valid as something with legal force; having a conclusion correctly derived from premise or something that has already been proved. So we don’t have to wonder about it. Jesus proved it and nothing has changed.
No doubt most of us are willing to agree that God’s word is stable. We may not be so stable all the time, and we may not always act like we believe it, but in the end we have to acknowledge that His Word never really has failed. Most would also agree that His Word and His promises are valid. After all, most who believe in Him even a little are not so crazy as to call Him a liar.
The thing that will trip us up more often than not is standing strong on the fact that His promises are guaranteed! Isn’t that strange? We expect people we buy things from to stand behind their guarantee. We will read the fine print, write letters, make phone calls, and even get a lawyer to make them stand behind it. God is more than willing to stand behind His guarantee and Jesus Christ is our advocate who watches over our words to perform them. I think it is time we started looking at His promises from His perspective. What do you think?
