STAND FIRM
With all these things in mind, dear brothers, stand firm and keep a strong grip on the truth that we taught you in our letters and during the time we were with you.(2Thes. 2:15)
There is no doubt that we are in troubled times all over the world. The more we see, the more it looks like we may be very close to the end of this age. All over the world, there are wars and rumors of wars. Even the people who are supposed to help keep the peace can not agree on how to do it, so there is fear of a break up between the peace keepers. Leaders are being brought down, including in America. Financial institutions are fearful and then there is Y2K. There is nothing that looks really great, and most of the predictions are that the worst may be yet to come. With all this in mind, what better time is there for Christians to take heart and declare that the day of the Lord is definitely near. Unfortunately, too many Christians are losing heart and letting fear get hold of them. We must make one thing perfectly clear. FEAR IS NOT FROM GOD!! He tells us in no uncertain terms not to fear anything but Him. Why? Because He is greater than anything. Fear is the opposing force to faith and only faith can please God.
No, we can not just ignore things, and hope that they go away, but we must declare our faith in God to keep us, no matter what situations may arise in the world around us. What better time for Him to demonstrate His favor for His people. Instead of joining in on the doubt and fear that is all over the world, we can simply declare that the Lord He is God. Of course that sounds like some sort of nonsense to those who do not know the Love of God. But to those who do it is the only thing that does make sense.
If you have fear, does that mean that you don’t love God? Absolutely not! It just means you need to draw nearer till you get so close, no fear can grab you. As Paul wrote to the Thessalonians, stand firm and keep a strong grip on the truth that you have learned. If you have not learned the truth of Gods protection and provision and His willingness to keep you in every circumstance, then dig in. Recognize that you need more truth to hold on to. As the Word of God says, Get understanding. Get into the Word of God and get what ever you need to keep you strong.
I tell you, the day will come, when people will empty their bank accounts to try and find some peace. And we will have it to offer free of charge, because there is no real peace, except the peace that is in Christ Jesus.
Many people are storing food and arms and everything else you can imagine. Some of this may well be necessary, but if we neglect to be built up in Christ and to store up truth, it will all be fruitless. As a believer in Christ, full of His Holy Spirit, we truly have nothing to fear, except that we should be found guilty of not trusting Him. God can a will take advantage of the worst of times to reveal Himself as the greatest God. Get a firm hold on that, and you will not only survive the times to come, but you will thrive in the midst of them.
