STAND FOR TRUTH
If you abide in My word, you are my disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 11:31-32 NKJ)
Everyone takes a stand for something. Even if a person stands for nothing; nothing is something! If there is one thing that a Christian must have, it is a determination to stand for truth. Unfortunately, there are far too many Christians who are unaware that they need to know the truth. They are happy just to sit and listen occasionally and they may not be hearing the truth at all. But how would they know if they do not seek for themselves?
In order to stand for truth, we must know the truth. We can hear the truth over and over, but in order to know it, we need to own it. We need to drive it for ourselves and see how it handles. Have you ever seen a car that you thought looked great and then after driving it you could not wait to get out of it? This is why we must know the truth and not just ride around in which ever one looks good at the time.
We need to seek the truth, and then keep adding truth to truth to the truth we know. We are fortunate as Christians that Jesus narrowed down our search for us. We have only one source that we need research. We need only to abide in Him. It is as we abide in Him and His word that we come to know the truth that makes us free to know more.
During the time that we are growing in the truth, we are a bit like toddlers. We may not be real sturdy on our feet, but we are determined. It is a good idea as we are seeking the truth to find people who will encourage us. Have you ever watched a toddler as they learn to walk? When they see that someone is watching them and encouraging them, they get a big grin on their face and take off. Soon they are walking on their own. The same is true as we grow in the truth.
Once we know the truth then we must walk it out. The reason we must walk it out, is so we will not allow it to be stolen from us. If we only hear about the truth and are not confident to walk in it, it is easy for someone to steal it from us. On the other hand, when we have put it into practice for ourselves and experienced what the truth can do, we are not so likely to let it slip away.
After we have laid the foundation of seeking the truth so that we know the truth, and then walking in the truth until we are confident to stand on the truth, the next obvious step is to stand for the truth. We stand for it, because we know that the truth is where life really is and we know that it is the only thing with the power to really make people free. Standing for the truth opens the door to knowing more truth to walk in, stand in, and stand for. It quite simply accelerates the Kingdom of God in our lives. That should make you want to hurry and stand for the truth!
