STAY JOINED

Stay joined to me and let my teachings become a part of you. Then you can pray for whatever you want, and your prayer will be answered. (John 15:7 CEV)

In our current economy or any economy for that matter, it is good news to most people when there is a job available. Now to have someone say that the position is yours if you want it would turn that good news into great news! When I look at this scripture that is what I see. Good news and great news!

The key is in the unwritten portion of this word. It is the part that is understood but not stated. If you want it, it is yours. All you need to do is get here. People are traveling all over the country right now in an effort to find a job. Others are moving whole families in order to take a position. The internet is full of sites offering to find jobs. The news is full of bad news. But Jesus remains the same forever!

He has a position open for us. It is an opportunity tied to a responsibility. The opportunity is that we can stay joined to Him. The responsibility is that it is our responsibility! So much for the old if God wants me to have it, I will. If God wants me saved He will save me. If God wants me well or healed or happy or anything else then God will have to do it.

The good news is that everything He has said or will say is for us, but we must stay joined to Him and let His teachings become a part of us. Isn’t that amazing? We have the power of making the decision as to whether or not we will allow His teachings to become a part of our lives. Of course you already knew this.

You also know there are times when people are offered jobs and decide not to take them. There are other times when people will say they are looking for something that is more part time. I have known people who would not take a job because it was not the kind of job they liked. They had no money, but would rather live off others than work at something they did not like until something else came along.

Christians are sometimes that way. God clearly makes an offer but they prefer a part time relationship. His teachings say something, and it is not the teaching they prefer so they would rather do without it. They live outside the promise of God wondering why they are not experiencing His best, simply because they are waiting for it to be the way they want it!

We have a promise from Jesus that the Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth. We have Jesus telling us that if we stay joined to Him (our responsibility) our prayers will be answered. (His responsibility) He tells us all these things so that we will be completely happy like He is. The bonus in this is that it makes Jesus happy to make us happy and He just keeps making us happier because it makes him happy. Now that should make you smile!
