STAY ON TRACK
Give the people this message of life; Give the people of Israel an opportunity to turn from their sins and turn to God; The Messiah you are looking for is Jesus. (Acts 5:20,31,42 NLT)
The gospel is really simple to understand, so why is it so hard for people to stay on track. We have a multitude of information available to us to help us, but it seems as soon as one is read another is necessary. Could it be that we are all looking for the one that we like best rather than simply looking to the ONE WHO KNOWS BEST! Don’t misunderstand me; I am not against anything that helps us to come closer to God. There are great teachers, preachers, authors, and etc. that want only to help, but they can only help if we are using them because we want to stay on track and not as proof that we are on track. What I mean by this is that many people do a lot of things so it appears they are track, when in fact nothing is changing in their lives. The following suggestions are not by any means a formula for success, but rather some simple things that may help.
First, I believe it is important that we keep in mind that the gospel is the message life. People are seeking life in a lot of places and things, but the truth is Jesus is the life we are seeking. There is no death in Him. Everything about Him produces life and everything about the message is life producing as well. He said that He came that we might be made whole, so to look at anything or anyone else as a means of fulfillment or completeness is futile. Keeping this in mind will help us not to be deceived by any of the tactics that devil might try to use to get us away from true life.
Next bear in mind the need of turning to God. The scripture says we have an opportunity to turn from our sins and turn to God. The most important part of this is that we turn to God. The closer a person gets to God the weaker sins grip becomes on our lives. Our focus must remain on God. The enemy will attempt to keep us focused on our sins so we cannot look to God who removes our sins. Sin cannot stand in His presence, so when we stay close to God those things flee. So just keep coming closer to God. When sin rises, run to God. Submit totally to Him and resist the devil and you will gain your victory. We just can’t stay close to sin and to God at the same time.
Finally, remember that everything you are looking for is in Jesus. The message was that the Messiah they were looking for was right there in front of them. To Israel, the Messiah represented total freedom, complete victory, every need met, and every enemy destroyed. The Messiah represented the coming of the kingdom of God. Jesus was and is all of that and much more, but many refused to accept that. The same is true today. Sadly, many in the church refuse to accept that as well. Keep in mind that everything you are looking for finds its fulfillment in Jesus. Every victory, every provision, every bit of wisdom; everything is made complete in Him.
If we will keep these things in mind, I believe they will help to keep us from being distracted and ultimately deceived.
