STAY TRUE

...Please stay true to the Lord...(Philippians 4:1 NLT)

As the Holy Spirit is working in us, one of the greatest things He does is enable us to stay true to the Lord. He is the one who brings up the truth that is in our hearts. He is the one that challenges us when we attempt to veer off the path. The deepest desire for all of us should be to stay true to the Lord.

The Jesus life is not just a way of life, it is life; without Him there is no life. This is what the Bible says, and it is so true. He is not simply the way to eternal life; he is life that leads to life. I know I am repeating myself, but it is this truth that we must grasp in order to continue in life.

I received a phone call recently from a person that had a snake in their office and they wondered if I did snakes. So off I went to rid this person of the problem. When I got there, I found a little baby snake, picked it up and took it outside. I chuckled to think that such a little snake could be such a problem to person and then I saw a really good picture of how we should be in our walk with God.

The truth is, not many people really like snakes. They don’t really bother me, but I would never have one for a pet nor would I go out of my way to be around them. In the Bible, satan came into the garden as a serpent and deceived Eve. His approach was subtle and it did not seem like a big thing. Had she just told Him God said no and to get away from her she would have been a lot better off.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we were as repulsed by the first little hint of sin in our lives as we would be if we found a snake in our bed? How many of us would sleep with just a small snake? No one at my house, I can tell you that for sure. So then why do we let little things just sort of hang around. You know the kind of things I am talking about. Maybe a little lie, or little backbiting or bitterness has hung around. If we allow Him, the Holy Spirit will help us get the little things out before they grow up into ugly snakes.

Another picture along the same line came to me as I was out doing duty on the doggy dew. Usually I just scoop it and get rid of it, but this time I decided to try and just rake it into the rocks and cover it so it could just weather away under the rocks. Well let me tell you, it is no simple task to rake it under. It took much longer and I do believe that as cars drive over it, instead of disappearing it floats to the top. Well as I raked, I felt like the Lord said it is the same with sin. It is best to just get it out and have it gone. If we try to just cover it in and blend it into our lives it takes a lot longer to try and cover it than it would to throw it out and it will just keep coming up.

So the best and easiest thing in all situations is to stay true to the Lord. Get rid of the little snakes before they grow up, and throw out the dung; don’t try to cover it up.
