STEADFAST
My heart is steadfast, oh God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and give praise. (Ps. 57:7 NKJ)
If it seems that everything is falling apart, there is one thing that will never fail. If our hearts remain steadfast; if we will praise and give thanks; we will see the glory of the Lord.
I truly do desire to be like Jesus. I want to always be pleasing to God. However, like David, I can only say that my heart is steadfast. I will sing and give praise. David was man after God’s own heart, but he had a lot of moments that cause us to shake our heads. Well I know that I have a lot of moments that cause God to shake His head.
I have many moments where my steadfast heart is all that keeps me and I owe that to the Lord. Long ago I sang a new song to the Lord with His own words. Create in me a clean heart oh God and renew a steadfast spirit within me. My flesh may weaken but my heart remains in Love with God.
My heart cannot stand it when my mind is bombarded by what is not God. That is the only reason that I can say I have many moments that I do not like. If it were not for the Holy Spirit filling my heart, those moments could easily be days, weeks, months, or years.
You see, the more steadfast our hearts are; the quicker we will give in to the Spirit of God. When He is the deepest desire of our heart we will more easily give up the other things we are holding on to. This list could include unforgiveness, bitterness, selfishness, hurt, loss, or any of a number of things that exalt themselves against the knowledge of God.
David praised, worshipped, shouted, and danced his way out of everything that tried to defeat him, and for this God called him a man after His own heart. Is it any wonder that there is such resistance to worship?
Radical worship comes through the power of the Holy Spirit so it stands to reason that there is also resistance to the Holy Spirit and power. The Holy Spirit in name is acceptable, but the Holy Spirit and power is often relegated to those who are considered overboard.
Without the Holy Spirit, there is no steadfast. There is a lot of holding on for dear life, but that wears people out. On the other hand, being steadfast in our love allows the Holy Spirit to carry us. Lord. Renew a steadfast spirit in me daily!
