STEP UP AND STEP IN
He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to His name. (Psalm 23:3 NLT)
How great is it that God strengthens us and leads us? He really does! His purpose is to bring glory and honor to His name. Jesus said that we could do nothing without Him, just like He could do nothing with His father and our father. So how did He do it so perfectly? He chose to!
Yes, this week as I was reading this verse, I was saying to the Lord that He strengthens and leads me on right paths and that I wanted to bring glory to His name; He interrupted me! Can you believe that? Don’t you just love it when God jumps into your prayers? He simply said, “You can. Choose to! Step up!”
How simple is that? All the promises of God provide opportunity, our part is to prove the desire. That idea just continues to come up. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. When we choose to do something and desire to do it, we need only to step up.
There is one more thing, and that is, we must stop when we are headed in a wrong direction. Then we turn and step up and step in the right direction.
Sometimes, we get on the wrong road, and we have been on it so many times that it seems like the right road. We are deceived into thinking that we just belong on that path. That needs to change!
When God said I could, I was dealing with keeping peace in all situations. I would pray and plan for peace and then find myself fighting like crazy to maintain it. Desire with no action only gives God part of the glory that He deserves.
It is not just desire. It is not just barely maintaining. It is stopping and stepping and walking that proves that God is greater.
Never grow weary of desiring. Never, never quite stopping. Never give up on turning. But in all of that, know that God is strengthening you to walk in the light and He is in the light. Never get discouraged. Increase your determination. You can do it. God wants it for you. You can do it.
I had a picture in my mind of how it is when you are looking for an address, or trying to spot something that you know should be in a certain place. When we are focused, we do not allow anything to distract us. In fact, we are quick to react to distractions. At least we try.
Life is full of distractions because the devil wants to keep us from the main attraction. For instance, I woke from a sound sleep and a random thing that needed to be taken care of just kept coming to my mind. I turned from it determined to pray. I prayed and then here it came again. That was when I saw that distraction was keeping me from my main attraction. It happens all the time.
Paul spoke of how he did not do what he wanted and did do what he did not want to do. His solution was to thank and praise God for the strength to overcome. Sometimes we say we want to, but we don’t want to enough to step up and step in. Excuses are what we use to not bother acting. What is it that you want to step up and step into!
