STILL IN CONTROL
“This is your moment, the time when the power of darkness reigns.” (Luke 22:53)
How wonderful it is to know, that when it looks the worst; God is still in control. God is able. God does not let us down. He assures us that at all times, He is with us. However, this verse points out that there are times when the power of darkness reigns!
Wait, darkness cannot reign! Well unfortunately it can. You would have to be unconscious not to recognize that there is a lot of darkness reigning right now. It is only in Christ that we can stand against the power of darkness.
It is difficult to understand why God does not stop all evil. It will be wonderful when evil is gone, but we know that does not happen until our Father in heaven puts everything in order once and for all. And so, we wait on the Lord. We rejoice in the Lord.
Remember, those who wait on the Lord, do not wait in vain. He renews our strength. He is our strong tower. He is High and Mighty. He knows what He is doing. He is!
We cannot ignore darkness. It does not go away. However, when we submit ourselves totally unto God and resist the powers of darkness, they flee! If you are a Christian, you know about this. You have heard this. You have probably experienced it. But the truth is, we sometimes forget.
Sometimes it is just too dark. Sometimes, too much has happened. Sometimes things stack up and we say things that open the doors to darkness. We speak doubt with more volume than we speak faith and trust. Even then, God does not desert us. The problem is that we lock ourselves in a room and block the door so that He has to wait to set us free.
He keeps knocking but we cover our ears. He does not give up. He speaks directly to our heart. He makes a way when it seems there is no way. It is possible that this word is for you right now, and God will use it to speak to your heart and take your hands from your ears and open the door and welcome His peace.
He is still bigger than all of our problems. Jesus was on the homestretch to the cross when His arrest took place. He had broken out of the room of distress, and He was in charge. The power of darkness was smiling and pounding his chest with pride, but he was in for a shock.
Makes me smile when I think of all the times that the power of darkness has overshadowed me and then the shock came. The healing came or the fear was blasted, or the peace just flooded the darkness away.
When you feel like it is too much, remember the goodness of God! Remember when you were sure it would never get better, but then it did. How did that happen? God happened. Think about the times that God has happened in your life.
If you have no recollection of that, then you need to be born again, or need to restore the joy of your salvation. Shut the door to darkness and give Jesus a hug. His arms are open wide.
