STILL STANDING

God's promise of entering His place of rest still stands...(Hebrews 4:1)

Isn’t it nice to know that God’s promises are still standing? It is not just some that stand and others that don’t, all of them are still standing. His place of rest according to the Amplified bible, still holds and is offered today. The amplified goes on to say that we should be afraid [to distrust it.] Why should be afraid to distrust God’s promises? For one thing, because distrust is unbelief, and in any area where we do not believe we do not enter that place of rest with God.

We should know by now, that this is not referring to heaven, but a place of rest now in this lifetime. The Amplified says that we who have believed (adhered to, trusted in, and relied on God) have entered that rest. He set a definite day when He said that. The day He mentioned was today. If we don’t harden our hearts and if we refuse to let anything but what God says dictate our lives, then we can enter His rest no matter what may be going on around us.

The Israelites were surrounded by what seemed to be good evidence for not wanting to go into the Promised Land. The people were to big, there were too many of them, and etc. But God did not ask them to look at what was wrong. He told them to look at how wonderful the land He had for them was. They agreed that the fruit and everything else was great, but they were afraid of things that God never wanted them to focus on. It stood to reason that if God were making them a promise, then He would see to it that all went well. But because they refused to trust Him, He told them that the deal was off.

Well, this is the same way that things are for us. God’s promises still stand. No matter what we may face, we can enter His rest. No matter what others may be facing, we can with all confidence assure them that God has a place of rest for them. Whoever calls upon the name of the Lord will not be disappointed.

Wouldn’t it be great if we feared not trusting God more than we feared the weapons of the enemy? Just imagine what would have happened if Israel had said, “wow what a great land you are giving us Lord, let’s move in right away.” They would have stepped into the land and the enemy would have scattered. They would have been living off the fertile land and multiplying, rather than wandering in a desert and waiting for a generation to die off.

That is what happens to us. We wander in a desert of despair until our fears die off or our faith rises up. We doubt until we are sick of doubting and finally in desperation we through ourselves on the promise of God and as quickly as we do, we discover that the promises are still standing. So why not just go with the promise in the first place? I know, it is easier said that done. But if we practice, we can do it!!
