STRAIGHTEN UP

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (Romans 12:2 NKJV)

In our lives we spend a certain amount of time straightening things. We straighten our desks, shops, vehicles, houses, closets, and any of a number of other things. Most of us at one time or another has been told to straighten up and no doubt have told others to do the same. Generally when this phrase is used, it is directed toward our actions or attitudes or both.

When we are in a relationship with God, it seems there is no end to the straightening up process. Some things are easy to straighten and other things are not so easy, but in order to enjoy of the peace of God that passes understanding, we must be willing to straighten up.

Paul once wrote of his battle with doing what he did not want to do and not doing what he wanted to do. His final solution was to trust the Lord because He was the only course to victory. Paul was not interested in simply surviving this life; he intended to thrive and his writing at the direction of the Holy Spirit was intended to show us the way to do the same.

The first step toward straightening power is submitting ourselves totally to God. If we are not totally submitted, we will not be totally committed to the call. If we only submit on certain things we will end up missing the greatest things of the Kingdom of God and live a frustrating life along the way.

We all know or have heard this verse from Romans 12 which tells us not to be conformed to the world, but rather to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. That means that we need to straighten up our thinking when our thinking does not line up with what God says. When our thinking is straightened out, then our attitude straightens out. When we have our thinking and attitude in line, it only stands to reason that our actions will follow that same straight line and the result will be a manifestation of the Kingdom of God.

For instance, when we are not feeling the best and we declare that we are sick, we need to straighten up and replace that with, “Thank you Lord for healing all my diseases,” or something along that line. When our thinking says, “I can’t do anything right,” we need to transform that into, “I can do all things through Christ.” In other words, we need to stop allowing ourselves to be conformed to the norm, and present ourselves to God for the transformation of all things. This stands true for every aspect of our lives. We must choose the promises of God over all things if we want to see, experience, and prove the good, perfect, and acceptable will of God. The world needs to witness this.

It sounds to me like God wants me to straighten up and if that is what He wants; I know it is the best thing for me. So no matter what, always be ready to straighten up!
