Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.(Luke 11:2 NKJ)

“When you pray,” Jesus said. As I understand it, prayer is communication with God. So when I communicate with God I should remember that He is my Father…not some cosmic being. I want what He wants, after all, His plans for me are good. I would be foolish not to submit to His will. If I believe what His will is, that is!

It seems that a lot of people have taken the, “thy will be done,” to the point of thinking that everything that happens is God’s will. That is just a little more than I can handle. I am sorry, but I just can’t see God planning for me to be ill, injured, killed, addicted to drugs, abusing children, murdering people, molesting children, stealing, and well you get the point. You see, if we really believe that God does the bad things, then we have to believe that it is His will for those who do them to be the way they are. I can see getting outside of His will and having things happen. I can see that we live in a fallen world, and bad things happen. But Him planning it and liking it, no. If you think I am messed up in my theology, that is ok. I just like this way best. I am convinced in my heart.

I just know that I love God, and that I trust Him and that I will praise Him no matter what may go on in my life. I admit that I prefer the good things. I want His good plans, and so I submit myself to His will. Have you ever wondered why many Christians prefer to focus on the fact that we will suffer rather than that God has good plans. I know I used to think that way. It is a spirit that can get a pretty tight hold on people. The problem with that thinking is that you seldom look forward to anything good until heaven. And in fact, there are those who really think that if things are good, something must be wrong.

I realize that the enemy resists, but we have to be careful that we don’t get our encouragement from the enemies resistance. I admit that I was caught in that for a bit as well. The bible does say to rejoice in troubles. But I believe we are supposed to rejoice in the Lord in the midst of troubles. For some people, the troubles seem to become their source of encouragement that they are doing good. It is like somehow they feel that the more they suffer the better Christian they are, and the better job they must be doing.

Most Christians know that God can do anything. The world will even tell us what He should do. What we need to get convinced of is what He will do, if we ask. Then in everything we will let our requests be made known to God with thanksgiving, and allow His peace that passes understanding keep our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

If we read the ten previous chapters of Luke we will have a better idea of what the will of God is. Then we can pray a little more freely about His will being done. I sleep better when I don’t have to worry that tomorrow might be the day that God decides to dump on me. He won’t dump on me in heaven and He won’t dump on me here. Have it Your way God….PLEASE!!!
