SUCH A TIME AS THIS
Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this? (Esther 4:14)
We always have a choice concerning how we will respond to the things that take place in our lives. We have the Word of God that tells us that we should always choose life. We should walk in the light as He is in the light. We should know the truth and the truth will make us free. We should believe God. We should believe that all things are possible with God. In other words, we should put our trust in the Lord and in His word. If we do, it will go well for us.
We all have different times or circumstances that we face in life. There are also times that we all face together. When there is a war we are all affected. When there is a financial crisis such as the one going on now, everyone is affected. Each one is affected in a different way, but still everyone is involved. Whether it is a personal problem, or a national problem, the solution is the same; turn to God. The depth of our faith in God’s ability directly affects the height of our flight. In other words, we will ascend or descend in direct proportion to the level that we put our trust in the Lord. (DOF-D-HOF)
When we look at the book of Esther, we see a person whom God has given the opportunity to save her entire race. Notice that I use the word opportunity. Too often, we get caught up in the idea of everything being a trial. God put me through this trial or tested me in this way. I don’t know about you, but opportunity is a much nicer word. People dread tests and trials. With God, all trials become opportunities to reveal His greatness.
Esther’s uncle Mordecai knew that she was their only hope. Sure he was aware of the danger ahead. Yes he felt dread and despair. But in the midst of it, he saw an opportunity for the Lord to make an example of their enemies, so that was the direction in which he prayed. The rest is history. Since we know that all scripture is given by God for an example to all believers, we should apply it to our times and our lives. We have the account of how God proved Himself faithful.
Since we can see how this worked out then; we can be sure that God is the same today. Nothing is too difficult for Him. What if we were to look at everything as one of those times? One of what times, you ask? One of those times when we take it to God and He does something great. If it is a good time, we praise Him and it becomes even better. If it is a not so good time, we do the same and He does something amazing.
On the very day that Esther’s people were supposed to be destroyed, they spent two days destroying the enemy and reaping the spoils instead. Not only that, but the one who worked so hard to arrange their destruction was executed on gallows he had commissioned. Talk about a turn around. May God help us to see everything as an opportunity to advance the Kingdom of God.
